A.N//Thank you for taking the time to read the first chapter! Of course, as stated before, none of this is canon to the series! :D The POV will change from time to time, so I'll specify when it changes.

DRAKE POV

I don't really remember that much.

I only remember cannons firing, screaming, and the feeling of being knocked out. Everything is blurry..I can barely feel my fingers and toes moving as I try to awake my body from the feeling of awakened sleep. Is that what it is? I feel like I'm sleeping, but I can feel my body. It's cold. Freezing, in fact. I can hear two people breathing, but it's quiet and shallow. Is it Grayson and Mia? I can't open my eyes. I can only lay here until I manage to wake up.

.....

How long has it been? I feel like I've just been sitting here in silence for days. Weeks?.. Months? Possibly years, but it couldn't have been that long. I can still hear the others, if its them, that is. I feel emotionless in this almost eternal sleep. Maybe I'm not even alive. I could be dead right now, laying in the abyss, now a restless spirit. But I don't think that's it. I don't think the heavens above would let that happen. Perhaps they would. It doesn't matter until I manage to wake up.

Please, wake up.

..

"....-Hh!" I felt myself sit bolt upright. I can't breathe. Can I? I don't know, I'm panicking, my thoughts racing as I try to recollect my memories. They are still there, thank the Lord. I open my eyes cautiously. What I see causes me to abandon all my struggles to feel my limbs, and I jump to my feet. I suddenly remember. The former airship they had been on was in flames, smoke rising from the fire that was still obliterating the ship. It was in pieces, melting the nearby ice and snow that covered the landscape. I could feel the heat radiating, making me a little impatient and flustered at this point. I need to find Mia and/or Grayson, if they haven't managed to kill themselves here.

I called out, but all that came out was coughing. I have only now realized how much smoke I have inhaled. Where was my backpack? Maybe I had some water -- that is..if it wasn't spilled or dissolved. I looked around at my surroundings. Snow and ice covered mostly everything, but I could just make out a round, small shape..my backpack! Thank Notch.

I wobbled my legs, that felt frozen-to-the-bone. I let out a quiet wince of pain as I struggled my way to the frozen backpack. The Empire would be making their way soon, I had to hurry and find Grayson and Mia. I managed to pick it up, and I dug through it..there was water, but it was very little. I don't know if I should drink it right now..I completely discarded this thought and downed it as quickly as I could. I don't think I've ever been so happy to drink any liquid in my life. My lips felt cracked and dry, and it hurt to talk with a dry throat, but I think I've been through worse. I slung my battered backpack on my back, and decided to at least make an attempt to look for Grayson and Mia.

I huffed, my cold breathing was completely visible in this weather. I wasn't used to so much snow ever since we were at--..nevermind, I have more things to be worrying about right now than the past. I trudged on, going at the quickest pace I could possibly manage through. It's hard to see where I'm going right now..I could just be wandering aimlessly--..actually, that's pretty close to what I'm doing. I decide I should probably begin looking around the crashed airship, that's most likely where they would be around..ugh, I desperately wish I had some leftover mana. That would really help me out right now, but I guess I'll have to make do for the time being.

I stopped dead, hearing a faint voice calling out. I couldn't make it out, but it might be best to see who it could be..and if it was someone bad, for instance, the Empire, then I could probably just hide somewhere. Well...at least make an attempt. I staggered to the calling voice, trying to see who it could be. It sounds more female than male, but it could honestly be anyone. I could faintly make out a figure in the distance, their shouting drowned out by the cold wind.
