"Ethan!" Screamed Edgar into my ear. I shot straight up, panting. I looked around and saw Edgar with a stupid smirk on his face.
"What is it you want?" I asked, laying back down. It was warm under my quilt, well until Edgar pulled it off.
"It's Christmas you idiot! C'mon. I actually got mom something." He said, excitedly. Usually Edgar would add his name to my present but i guess today is the day he actually got her something.
"Really? Is this a habit you're going to keep up?" I asked as i stretched. He chuckled and left the room. Well, that answered that question.
I got ready, by showering and changing. I walked into the kitchen and hugged my mother.
"Merry Christmas Ma." I said. She gave me a toothless grin.
"Merry Christmas Ethan. Did you let your brother add his name onto the present this year?" She asked. She knew about Edgar's 'sneaky' trick.
"Nah. He said he actually got you a gift. But eh, who knows." She laughed and walked into the adjacent living room. I followed her, munching on a sugar cookie.
"Merry Christmas boys. You know where your presents are." She said jokingly. I reached under the small tree and found mine. I carefully unwrapped it. It was a box. I opened the box. An axe. It looked new too.
"Thanks ma." I said giving her a side-hug. She smiled and gave her a tight nod. Her attention turned to Edgar.
Unlike me, he unwrapped crazily like a small child. His was wrapped in a box as well. After he opened it, he looked excited. "Ma, this is incredible!" He stood up and gave her a bear hug.
"Whatcha get?" I asked. It was a small gold chain, with a little 'e' on it. My father had that chain, apparently it's tradition to pass it down to the first-born son.
"Ethan, why don't you take that new axe of yours and chop some wood. We might need the extra wood, it's getting chilly lately." My mom asked me. Grinning, i took the axe and walked outside.
The new axe chop through the wood swiftly and easily. "Ethan." A soft voice took me away from my concentration. I looked at and grinned as i was 'Eve'.
"Hi there Eve." Her face was covered in confusion.
"I didn't tell you my name." She stated. Her name was Eve?
"Your name is really Eve?" I asked. She looked around and sat on the tree trunk, where Edgar chopped wood.
"No, but it's close enough." She said nonchalantly.
"Oh." I said what came to my mind. "Is there a reason why you stopped by?" I asked. I didn't mind it to sound so rude.
"I came to wish you a Merry Christmas but if since you aren't in a merry mood, i will leave you be." She said standing up. I quickly shook my head.
"I'm sorry. Please stay." I begged. She gave a glance before sitting back down. I took in her appearance. She wore her blond hair down, most of it covered in her red cloak. Her dress was white, long-sleeve, and form fitting. A thin blue sash was tied around the waist.
"You look beautiful." I said. Both our eyes widened. I could not believe i said that.
"Oh, thank you." She said with a light pink blush on her cheeks. "I must getting going." She got and started walking away.
"Eve, wait. You could stay for breakfast?" I suggested. She didn't turn around or even answer. She just kept walking. I frowned. I blew any chance i had away.
Sighing, i went back to chopping wood. Deciding that I chopped enough wood, i sat on Edgar's trunk. I felt something under my butt.
I stood up and saw a white note with red pen writing.'Eve', her name passed through my mind. Picking up the note, i read it.
Dear Ethan,
I have been disobeying my father's wishes by visting you. I will see you one last time. Tonight, after dinner, at the edge of the forest. I will explain it all. Until then, have a merry Christmas.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Walker
