Ethan's POV

I hadn't see Evelyn since she ran into the woods after receiving the news about her father. I grew worried, but there wasn't much I could do. Steward, a friend I could call, said it would be best if I stayed in my cottage until Eve sought me out. I was disappointed but did as told. I wasn't accustomed to the regulations and other things that went around here. I felt out of place but it didn't stop me. I simply stayed in my cottage and waited for Evelyn. The next day, I grew even more worried when she hadn't tried seeing me. I was worried she was hurt or worst. It wasn't till that Friday, I saw her. She was walking with Russia, the girl Steward had a crush one.
"Evelyn!" I yelled out. I jogged up to them. Evelyn turned around with a grimace in her face. "Evelyn, I missed you." I whispered. It was true. I did miss her, and I felt worried when her grimace didn't change.
"Evelyn's feeling a bit under the weather. I'm sorry Ethan." Russia said, before taking Evelyn into her arms and walking away. I stood there confused , hurt, and mad. I looked at Evelyn's back, before following her. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards me.
"No. I'm not letting her leave. I want to know why she's not happy to see me. I want to know why she was ignoring me for the past three days." I said, speaking to Russia, but looking at Evelyn.
"I told you Ethan. She's just -" Russia was cut off by Evelyn.
"Russia leave. I need to speak with Ethan alone." Evelyn said, speaking to Russia but looking at me. Russia looked at her unsure but nodded and did what she was told to do. "Ethan." She said. I shook my head. I was speaking first.
"No. I understood when you needed space when you found out your father was injured. I understand you must be serious when you are Alpha. But you are not Alpha yet. You're father is still alive. Evelyn, you don't have to be serious around me. I am your mate. I'm here for you. But when you don't want me, when I'm deeply worried about you, I want to know why?" I asked after my small rage fit.
Tears swelled in her eyes and I was immediately engulfed with guilt. I didn't mean to make her cry. I just wanted to know what was happening in my mate's life. Tears fell from her eyes like a never-ending waterfall. Quickly I engulfed her in my arms and rubbed her back to sooth her. She eventually stopped crying and began to hiccup, which cause her to slightly jump in my arms. I looked down at her wiped the tears away from her face.
"I'll tell you, but we better -" Hiccup. "Go somewhere safer and less crowded." She said, taking my hand and leading the way.
I was determined to find out what was wrong with my mate.

Evelyn's POV

I lead Ethan to the empty field I was at a few days ago. I sat down, urging him to follow my example. He sat down, across from me and looked at me with an urge to tell me why I was avoiding him. Honestly, I knew why, but I wasn't sure how I could explain it.
"Okay, so I'm not really where to start." I said, looking at him. He smiled and said from the beginning. I nodded and started from where I left him. "I ran to this field. My father took me here when he took me. He explained everything to me. I didn't really understand until I was older. He helped me through a lot. You must understand that. He was my best friend, my rock, my everything, and when he was hurt, I didn't know how I could handle it. I came here and let it all out before going to see him. He said he was protecting Veronica, from rogues. She at someone's grave, crying when he found her. I was mad at her. I can't tell you because it's not my story to say but I will say that he wasn't worth him getting hurt. He's in the pack hospital now.
Anyways, went into the woods to find her. I was mad to see her there, crying for the wrong reason. I yelled. I told to get over him or leave. She staying but Ethan. I missed up. I keep messing up so much. I can't mess up you and me. It'll kill me if I mess up us. I-I just didn't know what to do." I said, letting the tears flow freely. I felt Ethan's arms wrapped around me. He rubbed my back as I sobbed into his shoulders.
"You won't mess us up. Nothing can." He whispered into my ear and that stopped my crying all together.
