Two... A Step Closer To Death

Night came faster than I thought it would and I can imagine how tired I looked despite the fact that my rings were heavily concealed with makeup.

I dressed myself up in a teal(I was told that the color went well with my complexion), thigh cut, short sleeved dress that was the definition of 'clubbing'. The dress had a long 'V' neck that ended at my naval, hiding my bare skin behind a thin black lace. I almost wasn't going to wear the thing because of how much it revealed but then I remembered that I didn't have much of a cleavage anyways and locked that thought out of my head. I topped off the outfit with sleek grey heals and a tiny clutch that was the same color as my dress.

My brown hair was in a bundle of curls, another curse I had. I've always wanted straight sleek hair but unfortunately I inherited the unruly mane from my dads side. My mom had the hair I would die for, literally. However my hair was working well with me tonight. Nothing but concealer masked underneath my eyes. I wasn't really that experienced at putting on eye makeup, even though I was extremely skilled at painting(ha! the irony), so my face stayed practically naked. Except for my lips, that I'd touched with a cherry balm.

I wont be able to see my mom and my dad at all today. My parents both had to work early this morning. Though they both, separately, left me a note at the front door, wishing me a 'Happy Birthday'. My mom apologizing after she revealed that she would be working over time in the restaurant and my dad... well my dad would follow his usual pattern when they argued and disappear for days. Possibly even a week, but nothing more.

It didn't really bother me that they wouldn't be here. Actually it didn't bother me one bit, because I knew they wouldn't be able to sit in one room together without clawing at each others throats. Their bickering would definitely ruin this night for me even more.

I was trying to stay optimistic. But this day held so much bad luck, I could still feel it lingering in the air around me. Hoping that it was just my nerves and not an actuality.

I got that text I'd been waiting on for what seemed like an eternity.

'I'm outside :)' Alex sent to me.

I jumped from my current position on the living room couch as the spark of excitement sent an electric current through my veins. I slipped on my coat and took that first step out of the door. The coldness of the night whipped against my skin like a hurricane, and in my haste I locked the door with my spare key and practically ran to Alex's car. Already shivering while I opened up the passenger door and slid in, closing the door with a sharp exhale. I brought my hands up to the vents so that the heater could warm them up again.

"Look at you," She teased and tugged at my coat to get a better view of the dress. I met her brown eyes that were dazzling with sparkling red and black eye shadow, matching her low cut dress, and what was read in them was approval. "Fabulous, my darling. Just Fabulous." She made her accent British for that bit and then said. "I didn't think you'd take me seriously or really, I was afraid that you wouldn't even try to look the part. I'm proud of you. oh!and happy birthday." She smiled and started to turn the car back down the winding driveway.

"Thank you." I smiled to myself. Proud that I'd been able to prove her thoughts wrong, and pulling on my seat belt as she drove. Watching the mansion all but disappear in the side mirror as she pulled onto the some what busy street.

" Are you ready to party?!" She shrieked with a quick sideways glance at me.

I did my best to match her excitement, it wasn't hard because underneath all my worry was a little speck of it. "Hell yeah!" I giggled, hearing how silly I sounded.

She just smiled gleefully and continued driving. Taking us towards the more busy part of the city where the pedestrians out numbered the cars and where the buildings were loud and colorful. Music poured out of every building , club or not, and lines of people awaited to get in the priciest of restaurants, shops and stores. It was accelerating, driving my pulse mad like the sound of screeching tires that pierced the atmosphere. It seemed that no matter how cold it was people still aimed to have a good time.
