CHAPTER 13: IF YOU SEEK THE END

I stood before the towering snake demon, Shinrogan. He was uneasy on his feet due to my earlier assault. Blood coated his front and the snakes that swirled around his body looked drunk. I have to mention he looked angry not like before but really really angry. Well, that wasn't my fault, he shouldn't have picked a fight with me, killed my friend and threatened their lives. He looked just about ready to rip my head right off, but I had no patience for that. Hell, I didn't care if I died tonight, as long as he went down with me. His massive hands swiped at me and I ducked. I was slowly making my way close enough to him being as discreet as possible. For a moment I got over confident and one of Shinrogan's attacks hit me. It was a curse, weak but it still left me dizzy on the ground. My sword had escaped my hand and pain shot through my back. I wasn't ready to die yet, I thought. I hauled myself up before he managed another attack on me. I couldn't see my sword anywhere, it must have fallen into the tall grass, I thought and without its bewitched glow it would take time which I didn't have time to find it but I still had my short blade. I reached for it and came up empty. Panic stirred in me. Where was it? Ah sneaky, I thought when I realized what the snakes were for. My shurikens were gone to. Those snakes stole my weapons and I didn't even notice. I uttered a binding spell to throw Shinrogan of for a moment and ran towards the dead giant snake that Delano had killed. Upon reaching it I pulled out Delano's blade and held it firmly in my hand. This will have to do. It was heavier and longer than mine which also meant it caused more damage. Excellent. Facing Shinrogan once again he roared like the beast he was.

"I WILL KILL YOU PATHETIC HUMAN" his voiced boomed.

"Well then" I shouted back "We are just going to have to see about that"

I raced him again ready to plunge Delanos blade in the beast's heart. I was stopped dead in my tracks when I felt a sharp pain below my left shoulder. The pain instantly spread throughout my body and my muscles felt flimsy. I looked down to see what caused the pain: it was the spike at the end of Shinrogans tail. The spell had worn off. I fell to my knees the blade slipping from my weakened hand. Blood stained my shirt and only the tail prevented me from hitting the ground completely. Shinrogan drew nearer to me and I swore silently at myself for being so stupid once again.

"Looks like your days are over" the beastly voice sang out.

I shot Shinrogan my dirtiest look my eyes failing me under my heavy lids. That's when I saw it, my opportunity. I stared at the hole I made earlier in Shinrogans chest. It was larger than I thought, large enough to fit a small hand in. The beast laughed mockingly above me but I continued to stare. I'm not dead yet I thought. Slowly I raised my right hand my body growing accustomed to new pain.

"Guess what" I told the snake demon through clenched teeth "I watched 'Beowulf' the other night" and plunged my hand deep through the opening in its chest. Shinrogan was so surprised that his laughter got caught in his throat. My fingers searched the bloody depths upon finding it I grabbed in my fist and pulled out the beating red organ they call the heart in one swift movement.

A demonic roar of pain and fury pierced the silent night. It seemed as if the cry would never end. I held up the snake demons heart in my hand the sticky yellow blood rolling leaking down my arm. In a final attempt to live Shinrogan grabbed my back digging claws into me. I screamed out my pain but only a gasp escaped my throat. My head spun and my vision spotted. The last thing I remembered was Delano appearing out of thin air and slicing off both Shinrogans hands and tail releasing me from its clutches. Then I was carried away. Through half closed eyes I saw the snake demon light up in flames and burn away still screaming bloody murder.

CHAPTER 14: DEMON HANGOVER II

"You ripped his heart out" I heard Jasper's voice say with a hint of astonishment.

My eyes were opened but all I saw was a blur. He chuckled softly. I felt odd, not discomfort just odd. My back felt weird and my throat felt painfully dry. When my vision cleared I saw I was in my bedroom. Home. For a moment I had to wonder why Jasper was here. How did he get in my house? I tried sitting up and groaned. My pain in my body didn't let me go far. Then it all came back to me. Shinrogan. The fight. Jay. Kazia. Lisbon. Oh God, Lisbon. My insides clenched up and I held my stomach.

"Are you alright?" Jasper asked softly. He handed me a glass of water and I gulped it down greatfully. "Where's Kazia?" I asked him in a husky voice.

"She's safe and well. Uninjured"

"Where is she?"

"Probably sleeping at her house"

I looked at him in confusion and annoyance. What the hell? She didn't need to sleep she needn't a doctor! I pulled my self up again in sitting position my body still aching in protest. Jasper stacked pillows behind me to help me remain seated up.

"Everyone is okay. Kazia is doing fine. Delano just went to check on her"

While he spoke I reached around my back and felt the thick bandages leading up to my shoulder. I had forgotten about that.

"You're healing quiet well. How do you feel?" I looked at Jasper. Was he mad? How can he tell that in one day? He must have known what I was thinking since he said "It Saturday night. You've been unconscious for three days" Whoa. So not what I was expecting. No wonder I didn't feel that bad.

"You did it, Alix" Jasper sounded amazed "You killed Shinrogan" Images of the burning snake demon flashed in my head. "That was quiet a show you put on. I don't think we ever have to worry about him again" Jasper put his hand over mine with a smile.

I smiled back and said "Thank you for helping me do it"

I heard footsteps below making its way up to my room. Then my door opened to reveal the silent Delano. He was followed by Kazia. My heart gave a lurch of joy. Kazia looked so much better since the last time I saw her at Windsor Hotel, almost like her old self. She walked over to me both of us grinning madly and gripped me in a big hug. I squeezed back ignoring my aches.

"I'm so glad you're okay" I told her.

"Me too" she said as we released each other.

I could tell she had a lot of questions to ask but was holding back. I know I needn't to explain to her what actually happened and about me and hoped that Delano and Jasper had already did the worst part for me. That was cheating I know but I didn't feel like doing much of the explaining beside they probably did a much better job than me.

The next few days I was able to move about and actually leave my bed without much effort. Kazia had stayed with me the whole time looking after me. Which was weird because I always thought I was to be the one looking after her. One day while Kazia was out shopping for me I heard a knock on the door. I was surprised to see that Jay. I hadn't seen him since that day I ran out of his house chasing Shinrogan. I thought he probably never wanted to speak to me again. I mean how else can I interpret him not answering my phone calls and returning my messages? I opened the door to see him standing with a hard look on his face like he wasn't sure if he was supposed to be here or not. I asked him in and lead him to my back porch where I was sitting before. We didn't sit, he just stood looking a little uncomfortable and I flanked his side trying to read his expression.

"Thanks for coming" I said breaking the silence.

Jay nodded. "I'm sorry about not taking your calls" he said "I just needn't to clear my head after...." He trailed off.

"Its okay Jay" I assured him "I think I understand"

All this time he never looked at me but stared at the floor. "I just wanted to thank you. For saving my life"

"You don't need to thank me it's what I'm here for"

"Thanks" He nodded and gave a nervous laugh "So, what exactly are you?'

I gulped. That was a difficult one. I didn't want to tell him though so I just said "I'm your friend"

This time he looked at me with a little more positive expression. "That you are" he said.

I smiled at least he didn't call me a freak. Jay smiled back and grabbed me in an unexpected hug and from that I knew that everything would be alright "I'm glad you're okay" he whispered in my ear.
