It was February 4. Spelling bee day. I hadn't made it in, but she did. She ended up getting fourth place. Throughout the whole thing, I would catch her looking at me. I would look at her too, and I could tell she could tell. I cheered her on as the last seventh grader with everyone else, and booed the judges when she got out, with everybody else. I was just trying to fit in. Several people gave her a high five as she left the stage. I didn't. I wanted to act cool. Regret.
