Chapter Four
I was sitting in my bedroom watching NCIS on Netflix while eating a Mars bar. School was still cancelled and I was beginning to become stir crazy.
It's been a week. One long week. Seven full days of sitting at home and doing nothing. The roads have been closed, which meant mom and dad couldn't go to work. And I'm pretty sure we're running low on food.
"Knock, knock. Can I come in?" It was mom.
"Sure, what's up?" I ask, sitting up, and pausing the show.
She closed the door behind her and took a seat next to me.
"Your father and I are thinking about fostering a child." She says.
"Why? Aren't you guys busy with work?" I ask.
"Well, yes, but we were hoping you'd consider helping out. Also, I won't be going into work as often." She explains.
"Mom, did you get fired? How did you get fired? We've only been here for a month!" I exclaim.
She laughs. "Marissa, I didn't get fired. I'll just be working from home from now on."
"Mom, are you sick?" I ask, cautiously.
She smiles and takes my hand. "No, sweetie, I'm not sick. If I were, I assure you, you will know."
"Okay, but don't scare me like that again, mom, seriously. I thought you were dying or something. I need you and your motherly advice."
She laughed. "I promise. I love you, Marissa." She wrapped me in her arms and gave me a tight hug.
I hug her back. "I love you too, mom."
"Oh, and some of your friends from school are downstairs, I'll sent them up." She got up and walked out of the room.
I hate when she does that.
Shaking my head, I get up and throw out the wrapper of my candy bar.
I open my door when I hear laughing in the hall.
"What are you guys doing here?" I ask, as Noelle and Jessica enter my room.
"If you don't want us here, we can go." Jessica says.
"No, it's fine. I thought the roads were still closed." I close my door and sit back down on my bed.
"Some still are. What are you doing?" Noelle asks, sitting next me along with Jessica.
"Nothing, just watching NCIS on Netflix."
Jessica groans. "Can we watch anything but that? My mom watches it all the time, it's annoying."
I laugh. "Sure, feel free to browse." I hand her the remote, which she takes graciously.
"So, are you and Nate like a thing now?" Noelle asks.
"Not that I know of. He hasn't said anything since the last time we talked."
"Haven't you been texting him?"
"Yeah, but it's just that, texting. I've been hinting a bit, but I guess he's not picking up what I'm putting down. He is seriously confusing me."
Jessica chuckles. "Maybe he doesn't want to move too fast."
"She's right. Savannah really messed him up. Their relationship was pretty hardcore. She barely let Nate hang out with us, she pretty much wanted him to herself. We were so happy when she moved to Texas." Noelle smiles.
"So, I shouldn't keep pressuring him about it?"
"Yeah, just take it slow. Let the chips fall as they may." She says.
"You sound like my mom."

The snow had finally cleared up enough for us to return to school. Noelle and Jessica had me thinking about the whole Nate situation and his ex. Even though she isn't here, I feel like she is this huge obstacle that I have to get around just to get to Nate.
In more ways than one, I've been questioning if it will be worth the trouble of putting myself out there only to be possibly shot down.
Don't get me wrong, I still very much like Nate, but I don't want to waste my time not knowing if he's still into his ex or not. But the way Noelle and Jessica have briefly described of her, all I got from it was she's crazy possessive bitch who will not stop at anything to get what she wants.
And I'm just guessing on that last part. She seems like the type.
I just need to focus my attention on something other than my feelings for Nate. And that shouldn't be hard considering we talk almost everyday and with the school opening up, I'd see him five days a week...
Yeah, challenge accepted.
Now all I have to do is figure out what to focus my attention on.
Okay so, not the longest chapter, but don't fret. I will be updating soon.
This chapter was really just a filler. Nothing too major.
The Heart Wants What It Wants up top. Selena knows how Marissa is feeling... Although we're not there yet. I was just feeling this song.
But let me know what you think in the comments and don't forget to vote.
And If you really like it, tell a friend...
If you don't have a friend, then tell a stranger. Sharing is caring.
