Chapter Two

What in the hell is wrong with me?

My entire life I've been this confident person, and then all that goes out the window because of some stupid boy. I mean, yes Nate was looked like a supermodel, but that didn't mean my level of confidence had to drop significantly.

My mind had been completely occupied, that I didn't realize my mom had entered my room.

"Marissa Paige Anderson! Didn't you hear me calling your name several times?" Mom all but yelled.

"Sorry, mom. I just have a lot on my mind." I explain.

"What could possibly be on your mind? Today was only the first day." She took a seat next to me on my bed.

"There's this guy... I just don't know how to address the situation."

She sighed and pulled me into a hug. "You just have to breathe and be you. I know you haven't dated much back in California, but that doesn't mean you can't open yourself up to your feelings." She kissed my forehead before letting me go and standing up. "If that doesn't work, then be someone else. Now, come downstairs, dinner's ready." She turned on her heel and left the room.

I sighed, brushing the thought of Nate out of my mind and headed downstairs.

****

The next morning, I took a quick shower, and did my usual morning routine. I got dressed wearing a cute black dress that stopped a little above my knee. I had a white long-sleeved shirt underneath and a pair of very thick black tights. I put on my boots and brushed my hair into a neat high bun.

Walking downstairs, I got a text from Jessica saying she would pick me up in five minutes. Mom was in the kitchen making dad's lunch, humming, what sounded like, a Rihanna song.

"Good morning, mom." I say, grabbing an apple from the fridge.

She looked up and smiled. "Good morning. Are you ready for your second day?" I could tell she was hinting at something else.

"Well, it's not like I have any choice." I take a bite of my apple and grab my coat off the back of the chair.

She laughs. "Your dad should be down in a few."

"Oh, I already have a ride." I put my coat on and grab my bag.

"Alright, I'll tell your dad. I put your lunch in your bag. Have a nice day, sweetie."

I smile and give her a quick kiss on the cheek before heading outside.

The wind hit me so hard, I could feel the blood rush to my cheeks. I am not feeling this weather, but at least it's not snowing.

I smiled when I saw Jessica's car pull up on the curb. I quickly make my way to her car, happy to be engulfed by the warmth of her vehicle.

"Cold?" she asked, once I buckled my seatbelt.

"Words cannot explain how cold I am right now." I said, rubbing my hands together. "Thanks for picking me up."

She laughed. "No problem. Where are your gloves?" She pulled onto the street and headed to the school.

"I can't find them." I sat on my hands hoping they would warm up.

She chuckled and shook her head. "So, how was your night? Was a certain hazel-eyed, looks like he could be a model, on your mind?"
