Black Diamond- Chapter 1
Shelby.
"C'mon on Shelby you're gonna be late." I heard my mom shout from downstairs.
I had my iPhone blasting Dizzy Wright 'Happy' as I got ready for my first day at Richmond High. We just moved to Virginia from California because my mom got promoted to the head District Attorney. My mom and dad divorced when I was seven, and a year later he found another wife and my mom kept busy with work.
"Shelly you have exactly five minute to bring yo' ass down these stairs."
Rolling my eyes to the ceiling I finished getting ready then looked over my outfit in the huge bathroom mirror i had attached to my room. I wore a pair of destroyed skinny jeans, a tan tight crop top with a black sheer button up, I left open so you could see my revealed stomach. On my feet are a pair tan Oxford's and my hair was bone straight stopping a little passed my shoulders. For accessories I had on a pair of cross earrings and gold Tiffany's charm bracelet. I grabbed my messenger bag and phone then jogged down the staircase.
"You are such a diva." She chuckled shaking her head.
I flipped my hair over my shoulder then she opened the door and we walked outside to her silver jaguar. I slipped in the passenger seat then began to play on my phone.
"Are you gonna ignore me forever?" She questioned pulling out of the drive way.
I shrugged staring out the window.
"You may be upset with me now but Virginia is gonna be great for us, I can feel it."
"Mom we moved to Richmond, Virginia how the hell is that better then Los Angeles?"
We approached a stop light and she snapped her neck towards me.
"Watch yo' smart ass mouth."
"Mom I'm just saying I could've stayed in Cali with dad."
She mumbled something under her breath that I couldn't make out. I knew the only reason she didn't want me staying with my dad is because his new wife Lena.
"Can you just try and be happy?"
"I guess."
Before I knew we had pulled in front Richmond High. The school looked dirty and old as hell. I frowned at all the graffiti and kids standing at the front entrance, call me bougie or whatever but I definitely stuck out.
"Have a good day honey, if I'm not here to get you after school just take the bus."
"The bus?" I looked at her like she was crazy. "Can't you call dad and ask him to ship my car earlier."
My mom sighed. "I'll see you later Shelby and I love you."
"Yeah, love you to."
I got out of the car and closed the door. She drove off and I stood there taking in the school scene before sighing and making my way towards the front entrance. The kids who stood blocking the door looked at me sideways before slowly moving aside and letting me through. The inside looked just like the out, there was graffiti everywhere and the lockers looked rusted and out of date.
"The fuck have I gotten myself into." I mumbled to myself
Unlike the kids from earlier, nobody really paid me any attention and I kind of liked it. I didn't have a hard time finding the main office so once I spotted the brown doors I walked inside to see an older black woman behind the desk typing away on the computer.
"Excuse me." I said politely.
The lady looked up from her computer and smiled. "What can I help you with sweetie?"
