I hear your voice all over town,
I hear your voice up and down.
Your voice is ringing like Liberty Bell,
Sometimes sad, sometimes well.
I hear your voice in my ear,
I hear your voice far and near.
I hear your voice morning, noon, and night,
Sometimes your voice gives me such a fright,
But it usually happens over night.
Sometimes I want your voice to go away,
Sometimes I would like it to stay.
I don't know when you're coming, until I hear a tone,
But you only come when I'm alone.
People think it's strange when I talk to you,
But someday they will learn something new,
If they could only speak with you.
They wouldn't think it's so strange,
And maybe some of them would change.
Now I'm sad, because you've gone away,
Now I'm lonely, and that's the way I'll stay.
And that's the voice that went away,
And left me there, alone to stay.
