When it comes to dreaming, there are some people who remembers the dream and some people (like me) cannot remember a thing. Just because you cannot remember a thing doesn't mean you haven't dreamt. From what I have learned from Psychology, everyone... Yes EVERYONE...dreams during REM phase during your sleep.
When we sleep, we go through sleep cycles: n-REM 1, n-REM 2, n-REM 3, and REM. REM stands for RAPID EYE MOVEMENT. (The naming is a bit lame right? Rapid Eye Movement because when you dream your eyes move rapidly... LAME hahaha)Anyways during the first 3 phase we go to deep deep sleep, and then at REM our eyes move rapidly and our body is relaxed. However it is at this stage, and only at this stage, that we dream (both good dreams and bad dreams).
I would like to share one dream that I still remember because it was a nightmare to me when I was just a boy. I was only in 2nd grade and back then my English wasn't good at all (still ain't that great). So I had to take this class called ESL: English Second Language; this class is where we "improve" our English and it is for students whose English is their second language. Once their English is good enough not to take the class, then they are free to go! I hated the class because first of all, there were a LOT of reading and I hate reading (because I am a slow reader and I tend to lose focus and understand things, but I like writing and talking though) and there were more homework than other students who didn't take the class! But I hate the class even more because usually the homework was reading. >:(
Anyways, it was when I was 2nd grade and at this class when I read this book called "How to Eat Fried Worms". Who remembers this book (or even the movie)? I don't remember much about the story, but one thing I remember about it is that this boy ate worms. The more I read the book, the more I hated the book because why would anyone eat worms (???) even if it is a dare?!??! Just pure disgusting. Anyways, one day before it was time for me to go to bed, I had to read the book for homework. So I did. I do not know if it was because of that, but I started to dream something really peculiar.
So the dream goes like this:
I was riding my bike. At a park. However suddenly I feel like something is chasing me. I start to breathe fast, and sweat starts to run down my face and body. I know something is chasing me, yet I do not look back at what it is and I still don't know what it was. Suddenly I fall, but into the pond in the middle of the park. I start to swim, but I kept sinking. (You know when people start to swim up and down for breath when they sink? I was just like that...) Anyways inside the water I see something swimming and is coming towards me...trying to eat me... I tried to swim faster and faster, yet I was at the same place. Then the creature came towards me and opened its mouth trying to eat me as a whole. Then I woke up...Wow... When I put the dreams into words it sounds so lame and not scary...yet my title for this chapter is NIGHTMARE ㅡ.ㅡ Better change the name or something.... Anyways, what does the dream have to do with the book, "How to Eat Fried Worms"? Well, its simple. The creature... The giant creature swimming in the pond trying to eat me was one giant worm (not fried though). It was as if I was the boy in the book who ate worms and the "worms" joined to form this one giant worm to revenge the boy (aka me in the dream). Honestly, now that I think about it, it isn't that scary, but as a young Timothy, it scared the crap out of me XD! Maybe that's why I really hate worms (Because I am scared they might eat me? XD)
Here's a lesson for you guys: don't read the book. It's not fun and it's not a good book. I mean how can an author think of a boy eating worms?
Anyways, after that day, I have one dream that I can still remember vividly. As I have told you, when someone dreams, one can remember the dream or forget it. I usually forget my dreams. The reason I think one forgets dream is because dreams are just random pictures that the brain produce when it is trying to organize some space and memory (one of the theories on why we dream). Another FUN FACT is that we don't dream continuously. Like I said earlier, we have sleep cycles; each cycles last 90 minutes. So when you sleep for about 8 hours (which is about 5 cycles), you'd be dreaming five times. However, those dreams isn't one continuous story. Rather they are all different dreams and when you wake up, you only remember the most recent dream and not all "5" dreams. Psychologists still don't understand fully about dreams and sleep. However one thing for sure... Sleep IS good :)
PS: wow it's been a while since I continued writing... Now that I got a bit more followers, I will try to write more for you guys :) Thanks for the good comments!!!
Also, I have been working on another story, Behind the Mask. I am still on Prologue and Chapter 1 even though I started this like few months ago (approximately 3 months ago). I hope I can finish the prologue and chapter 1 real soon so that I can publish it!!! :)
