Surviving in Colorado (TBP fanfic)

Stranded

     It starts pouring rain again, and in minutes the rocks are slick and undrivable.

   "Oh shit, we're in trouble!!" Reid says as the car starts veering off towards the cliff beside them.

      He frantically drives along, struggling to keep the two left side tires on the road. He is managing it just barely. Suddenly a huge wall of mud, dislodged trees and rocks come tumbling down the mountain side above them and sweeps the car into down the cliff.

      The left side of the car comes crashing into the side of the cliff. Reid's window breaks, letting debris fill the car. He hears Kimberly and Neil screaming as the car tumbles down the cliff. Reid tries to scream, but mud fills his mouth.

      Suddenly the car flips on the ceiling, almost crushing them completely.

     He hears many thumps and crashes as the car tumbles down the hill. Suddenly Reid feels crunching metal trap his legs. He instinctively tries to pull them out, but the stabbing pain of the jagged metal pierces his skin and causes him to stop. Reid's head hits the steering wheel, making his vision turn dark.  

      Kimberly is struggling to keep from being crushed by the roof of the car. Neil in the back reaches his hand forward and tries to locate his sister. When he brushes against her shoulder he grabs her hard and shivers with fear.

      The car finally hits the water in the river. It sends everyone flying at the impact. The water slows the speed of the tumbling car, but now they will drown if they don't escape. The car is filling up with thick mud and water faster now that all the windows are broken.

      Reid looks around his black world and says to his ailing siblings "I'm sorry" very faintly.

      Kimberly grabs his arm and looks at him.

     "Get out." she chokes.

      Neil tries to open his door but it is jammed shut. "Reid, we need to get out of here now!" he screams. His voice is a lot stronger as most of the damage is going to Kim and Reid in the front.

      Neil realizes his brother is falling unconscious and he's trapped. He turns to Kimberly and sees her door is never going to open. He makes a decision that he has to get himself and his siblings out. Neil kicks at his door repeatedly, but the water is keeping it closed. He keeps at it, throwing his tired body at the door until finally it opens. Water comes rushing in, and before he can react it's up to his neck.

      Kimberly screams as the water rises to her mouth, leaving it hard for her to get a breath. Neil tips Reid's head back so he will be able to breathe while he is unconscious.

      Neil gets out and clings to the car as the choppy river tries to pull him away. He helps Kimberly out and makes sure she will be able to hold on without him there. Then he crosses over the submerged hood of the car to Reid's side. He frantically tears at Reid's door until he gets it open. He pulls his limp brother out and keeps him in his arms.
