Surviving in Colorado (TBP fanfic)

Rescued

     "Kim, guess what??" Reid asks when he gets off the phone.

      Kimberly is hanging on faintly, and she opens her eyes some and mumbles.

      "Miranda is coming, we're going home!" Reid cries.

      He rushes to her side and holds her close to try and keep her warm. He cradles her like she's a child, and she closes her eyes again and dozes off in his arms.

      Neil was out with Shadow to try and get something to eat, and when he returns he's stumped at the site of them together.

      "Reid, what's wrong with Kim?" Neil asks frantically when he sees him crying. He kneels down next to Reid, and Shadow lays by the fire again and he watches them.

      "Nothing's wrong Neil, we're going home!" Reid cries happily; tears streaming down his face.

      "Wait, huh?" Neil asks.

      "I used your phone to make an emergency call, and she answered!" Reid says.

      "Wait, who answered?" Neil asks.

      "Miranda did! I told her where we were about and they're coming to rescues us!" Reid responds.

      Neil lights up, and he hugs Reid and Kim gently as not to hurt her.

      "Oh Reid you're so smart! Damn, how'd you think about the emergency call?" Neil asks.

      "Well I was trying to unlock your phone, but it wouldn't, so I kept trying to unlock it, and eventually it gave me an option to emergency call!" Reid explains.

      "Oh gosh, that's amazing!" Neil hollers; his voice echoing throughout the cave.

      Kimberly opens her eyes some to see what's up with the sudden increase in volume. She looks from Reid to Neil, and then cuddles up into Reid again. Reid turns them both around so he's not facing away from the fire, and he lays her back down in his lap.

      Kimberly reaches her hand out and calls to Shadow in the faintest voice either of the boys have heard come from her. Shadow lifts his head up and trots to her side.

      He lets Kimberly pull him close and lets her runs her fingers through his fur. She loves how it's so thick and pure black; it soothes her back to sleep.

      Neil comes around her and lays next to the fire too, and he watches her fall asleep next to the big black wolf. Neil wraps his arms around Reid's waist and puts his head on his shoulder.

      "Uhhh Neil..." Reid says suspiciously.
