Northern Germany - Drevis Residence
Knock, knock, knock. "Father. . ."
Knock, knock, knock. "Father, are you in there?"
Aya Drevis was waiting outside her father's laboratory located in the mansion's maze-like basement yearning to speak with her father. She wore a long-sleeved, dark blue dress with white cuffs, worn over by a white apron. She also bears a golden pendant around her neck. The old and rusty wooden door to the laboratory finally bursts open, hitting against the wall with a loud clank. A tall, slender man with short, brown hair in a stained white lab coat wearing rimless glasses and a surgical mask, steps out of the rather dark doorway, turning immediately and looking down to face his daughter.
"Father!" Aya exclaimed.
"Aya! How many times have I told you not to come down here?" reprimanded her father.
"Sorry, father. . .," apologized Aya, looking down feeling ashamed and fidgeting with her hands. "But. . . um. . . I'm too scared to sleep on my own. . ."
"Aya. . .," her father said as he knelt down so that his face was level with Aya's. "Don't Worry. You're never alone. Your late mother is always there by your side. . . She's always looking after you, Aya. Okay?"
Aya slowly looked up and faced her father, feeling more relaxed than before.
"Now please, get to bed." he requested in a tired tone.
"Yes, father. . ." she replied obediently.
"Good girl." he said in a hushed voice.
As Aya takes a few step forward, clacking her shoes against the dirty cobblestone floor, she remembers something important she had forgotten and spun around, walked up to her father, meeting his eyes. "Father, tomorrow's. . ."
"Yes, the anniversary of her death. . ." said her father, cutting her off and saving her the strength of struggling to say it. "We'll visit her grave together."
"Okay." replied Aya with a smile on her face.
"Now, back to bed, please. I'll be resting too shortly."
"Okay. . ." replied Aya as she turned and walked down the dark, torch-light, cobblestone hallway to the basement stairs.
Her father re-entered his laboratory and closed the door shut. Aya takes a look over her shoulder to see the wooden door snap in with the door frame. Suddenly an ear-piercing scream rang throughout the hallway which made Aya stop in her tracks. "S-stop!"
The scream was then immediately followed by the sound a rusty chainsaw starting up, leading to more screams of terror. "Nooo! WAAAAAH! Help me! HEEEEEELLLLLP!!"
The sound of the chainsaw once more was heard, revving and followed by a blood-sickening sound of crunching bones and shredding flesh, echoing along the empty hallway. Aya continued to walk to the sounds coming from the lab, showing no emotion whatsoever, as if the sound was a part of her daily life.
I know my father's secret. My father is a scientist. He loves research and is always locked up in the lab in the basement. And I've always heard things from that lab. . . Animal and human screams. . . Even at a young age, I knew what my father was doing. So I pretended I wasn't looking. That I didn't know or hear anything. I feigned ignorance the whole time. Because I loved father.
