PERIDOT'S POV

I fall on to my hands and knees after crawling out of my mini ship. I was almost trapped inside again. The stupid thing doesn't always want to open after I rest inside it for a while.

I stand up and brush off any sand. I kept the ship hidden between two trees and a few bushes, so none of the human clods would ever find it.

I turn to the sound of a splash. A small girl fell to the ground in the water. I gasp and rush over to her. Everything about her was blue - her dress, her eyes, her hair... Even her skin was blue.

...Did that mean she was a gem?

I pick her up bridal style and carry her to a log. I set her down so her head is laying on the log. She coughs and sits up.

"Th-thank you..." she says quietly. "But I'm fine. Really." She stands up, turning around to look at the ocean, but her legs give out underneath her, and she falls backwards into my arms. I notice her gem on her back and find myself speaking.

"L-Lapis?"

She sighs and sits back down on the ground. "I guess my legs don't have the same strength they did before I walked through the ocean..." She perks her head up and looks back at me. "Wait, how do you know my name?"

I sit down next to her, feeling the heat rush to my cheeks. "I j-just saw your gem..." I stutter.

Lapis stares at me curiously. "Okay... Then what gem do you have?" she asks, tapping my gem with her finger.

I look at her like she's crazy. "I'm a Peridot. But wait, you mean, you can't tell by just looking at it?"

She giggles. "Not everyone memorized all 341 gems in the books. And plus, I came here - to Earth - before I could even study gem nature..." She looks down and sighs.

I put my arm around her and hug her. "There's three hundred and fifty-one. But it's fine. I mean, there's not that much to learn... Of course, you'll have a lot of catching up to do, but it's cool. Really."

Lapis shakes her head and giggles again. "You really are a smart one, now, aren't you?"

I smile. "Forever and always, that's me."
