It was Monday.
It was early.
It was a school day.
Butterflies erupted into my stomach, sending me into a fit of nerves. I was shy and reserved most of the time. I'd never been forced to start over at a new school before. I jumped out of bed and ran to my window, as that's what I do every morning now. He wasn't there.
I huffed, not sure what else I was expecting. As I hopped down the stairs, I hummed quietly to myself as an attempt to calm down. I started the coffee pot and found the note dad had left, saying he wouldn't be home until late tonight. I looked around the kitchen before I flipped on the iPod deck and left it on shuffle, dancing moronically to whatever song came on. Turning the volume up as far as it would go, I raced upstairs singing along. I showered last night so all I had to do today was get ready.
I straightened my hair, bringing it to its full extent. Lining my eyes with a coal eyeliner, adding mascara, and a slight pink color on my lips, I was done with makeup. Which brought me to my wardrobe. I really wasn't trying to impress anyone here because it didn't matter to me wether I made friends or not. So I slipped on regular jeans that clung to the curve of my hips, a plain blue t-shirt that complemented my bust, and vans.
I skipped downstairs as I made myself breakfast, not really paying attention to the time. I refused to look at the clock, just knowing it would make my nerves come back. I nodded my head to the beat and was really getting into it, when a tap on my shoulder caused me to scream and twirl around in a fighting stance.
A slim girl about my age stood there, eyebrows arched onto the top of her perfectly shaped face, blond hair curled and pinned back on the sides. She had a small button nose and thin lips that were etched into a silly smile that was still beautiful. Her blue eyes that looked so.. familiar, shone friendly enough, but I was still leery. I walked over to iPod deck, glancing at her every now and then, and shut it off.
The second I did she squeeled. "You like Nirvana! NO way!" her voice was very frilly and it was my turn to lift my eyebrows.
"And you do?" I asked, slightly still surprised by her presence.
"Well, no to be honest. But my brother listens to them ALL the time! You'll like him!" she stated and started fixing breakfast with me as though she'd done it a million times before.
"Uhm... who are you?" I asked cautiously, scared she might be offended.
"Oh! Silly me. I'm Lilly! I already know who you are! You're the new girl! And your dad wanted me to give you a lift to school!" she giggled as we started eating.
Her laugh was contagious as I found her harmless enough and soon we started to get along great. She gave me the low down on who's who in school.
"Then there's Brent."
I hadn't really been paying much mind to her rambling, but the way she spoke his name made me look up at her. She looked disgusted.
"You don't like him." It wasn't a question.
Then her clouded face evaporated and she smiled at me.
"He's just a bad person, done lots of bad stuff. I'd stay away from him if I were you. He's bad news." She said it like a warning and I scoffed.
"Don't worry about me, Lilly. I ain't gonna go near him," I said laughing.
We finally arrived at school after leaving the house and her turning the music on a pop station full blast. She held my arm and people openly stared as we made our way into the school.
Great.
A group of snobby looking girls stood around what looked to be a jock. He was tall, attractive, his brown hair was rustled like he'd just rolled out of bed that morning without looking into a mirror. There was a tattoo poking out from the sleeve of the dark blue fitted shirt he wore. His breathtaking smile found Lilly as she pranced up to him.
"Hey sis, who's your new friend?" he asked, his gaze catching mine. Suddenly I was a bit more shy and tongue tied, so I just gave a small smile.
"This is Elizabeth, but she likes to be called Liz!" Lilly practically shouted so everyone could hear. A few more people scurried by, obviously casting glances at me.
"Liz, this is my brother, David," Lilly said and started opening the locker she stood next to. I gave a small wave.
He nodded in approval and said "Cute." My cheeks flushed red. He smiled even wider at that. "And not conceited. Nice!"
That was when I noticed the heated glare a platinum blond girl was giving me. She had her arm wrapped around David's bicep and her curvacious legs fitted over top of his like she was claiming him as hers. My eyes fluttered to the ground as I muttered something about going to find my locker.
Okay. I didn't exactly want friends, but I didn't want enemies either.
The school was bigger than I was use to and the students. They were huge.
All of the guys were buff, even the ones who looked a bit nerdier than most. And the girls were all drop dead gorgeous as they towered above me. I had never been very self conscious, but today I couldn't help comparing myself to them.
"Move, shrimp!" someone from behind me hissed as I looked down at my class schedule. My eyes shot up.
Before me stood a staggering beauty. Her eyes crinkled inward and her jet black hair shone in curls down her back. Her eyes were so dark the pupil almost disappeared in them, And her perfect mouth was twisted into a snarl at me.
"Excuse me?" I asked, completely forgetting what I was doing. I never backed down to a bitch.Everyone said I had my mothers temper.
"You heard me! MOVE!" she ordered, crossing her arms.
I didn't notice all of the people staring until a small crowd formed around us. That was also when I noticed the blond from before and a another blond haired girl, the spitting image to the one also flanking the girl I was facing off with.
Something inside of me whimpered, but it was just barely there as I pushed it away.
"And why the fuck should I listen to you?" I breathed out, anger bubbling inside of me.
Her eyes narrowed.
"You don't want to fuck with me little girl," she leaned forward and whispered. I glared up at her.
"try me."
And that was when she pushed me, my books flying to the floor as ooohhhh's came from the ground. I stared at my books for a second before a smile ripped across my face and I nodded. I looked back up at her.
"Oh, it's fucking on bitch."
My fist landed in the square of her face and I heard a sickening crunch sound, but that didn't stop me. I kicked her shins out from under her as both of the girls beside her started pulling on my hair, attempting to get me off of her. They grabbed my legs and pulled, but I managed to get a firm grasp on the black haired girls head, therefore refusing to lose contact as they lifted me from the ground. I bit and clawed as the girl screamed bloody murder and tried to loosen the grip I had on her precious locks.
And that ladies and gentlemen, is how I got suspended on my first day of school, and made a flock of new-found enemies.
