A Choice; Immortality or Reincarnation

I gasped at his offer. Something about him made me fall in love with him over and over every time I saw him, but I couldn't exactly say yes. I barely knew him. Maybe in my past life we were madly in love, but I couldn't remember it even though he could. I wished so badly to be with him, so I couldn't say no either. "I'll think about it," I said, smiling.

He smiled back, assuming that my answer meant the next time I saw him it would be a yes. He wasn't wrong. I know that even with time my answer would be the same, but I still had to think it all over and register what this whole day was. "We're here," he said, pulling up to Allyson's house.

"Will you walk me in?" Allyson was asleep, so we wouldn't get in trouble by her as long as we were quiet enough not to wake her up.

"Of course." He got out of the car and sped over to mine, opening it before I even had the chance. He was very fast, maybe even faster than Aaron.

As he walked me up the steps to my room, I started thinking more about Aaron. I stood in front of my bed, staring into Drake's eyes. "Will... will I get to see Aaron ever again?"

"Maybe. He's awful young to be a vampire, though. Usually it takes adult vampires around 20 years to master controlling their bloodlust. Even I sometimes break down, and I'm centuries old. I've never dealt with a child vampire before, but I've heard it takes them at least three times as long because their willpower isn't as strong. Some vampires never master it though, causing them to become very deadly to mortals."

"So I'll never be able to see him again?" I rush of depression ran over me. I lost all of my family, and now I'll never be able to see any of them again. That is, until I die.

"Don't think like that," Drake said. "I'll promise you that you can see him again, even if he's not fully trained yet. I will be there to make sure no harm comes to you."

"Okay, fine. Please stop reading my mind, though. I'm still getting used to this whole vampire thing."

"You have yourself a deal. Get some rest, now. You've had a long week. I'll see you at school Monday?"

"Yeah. sure," I said laying down. I really needed a break. I closed my eyes for what seemed like minutes, but when I opened them again, it was almost pitch black in my room. Moonlight streamed in through a crack in my curtains. The time next to me on my nightstand read 3:30am. Something about it made my stomach turn. I needed a glass of water.

I headed downstairs and filled up a large glass with water. I carried it upstairs and chugged half of the glass. The bottomless pit in my stomach wouldn't cease. That's when I saw the human outline in my desk chair. "This is a really nice room you have here. Mind if I stay a while?"

"What do you want?" I asked. My heart was beating out of my chest. I wonder if she could hear my thoughts as well as Drake. "I know what you did."
"Well I thought we were friends now," she said sarcastically. "Doesn't that suck not being able to see your family ever again? Well, I mean, you could. It will be about another 80 years, though. You'll never get to see your precious Aaron again, though."

"Wait... you know about that?" I asked. I was shocked about this, although I guess I shouldn't really be. "I caused him to become a vampire." She laughed. "I also made Angelo and Chelsea do that to you the other day. Ya know," she paused, taking a moment to be pleased with herself. "You could always become a vampire, too. You could go see Aaron all you wanted. He wouldn't have to be alone for all eternity wondering why he'll never get to see any of his family ever again."

She smiled. "What would you want in return? I know you won't do this deed for the pleasure of mine and Aaron's happiness. You tried to kill me in the last lifetime. What's keeping you from doing the same this time around? Why not kill me while I'm still vulnerable?"

"Well, you see, I'm simply giving you the option of how you want to die this time. You can either chose to become a vampire and spend an eternity without Drake but with your brother, or you can die to be with your family until you're reincarnated for an unnatural death. Then I'll simply give you another option on how to die. So how would you prefer? Aaron or reincarnation?" She smiled, knowing I would die painfully either way.

I took a moment to think. I seriously couldn't leave him, could I? He was so young and so lost. I couldn't let him be the only one left, could I? No, I couldn't. They wouldn't want it to be this way. I looked at her and then the floor. "How are we going to do this?"

I sat in the dark, waiting for Jayde to tell me how I was supposed to become a vampire. She took out a small knife from her purse and slit part of her arm open. I watched as red crimson liquid poured from her veins. She simply smiled as I gawked. "Come over here," she said. "It's not a guarantee it will work. Most of the time, it does. Other times, it just doesn't." She held up her arm, and I watched as blood dripped.

"Why even give me the option? I mean, you could just torture me or whatever, but you didn't. I know what my options are, but I don't exactly understand why."

"Because, if I simply wanted to play games with you, I would kill you. I bore of such mindless tasks nowadays. I don't like explaining myself more than once. This way, I don't have to. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to kill, but I like to change up my game. Killing the same prey gets old. Are we going to start this or not?"

I walked closer to her and without thinking, grabbed her arm. She brought my neck closer to her, and I could feel her fangs brush against my skin. Her teeth dug deep into my neck, leaving me gasping. Being bit hurt, but it was worth it if it meant seeing Aaron. "Drink," she demanded, so I started licking up the blood from her arm. It was cold, unlike what I had thought it would be.

My body started tingling. I guess I was so worried with my headaches when I had taken the pills that I didn't even notice the warm tingly feeling that came with it. Also, unlike the taste of pennies, it tasted sweet, as though I had been craving it for centuries.

She pulled away and stared into my eyes. "There's only one step left, Delilah. You must kill yourself. Don't cut. The wounds will heal too fast with my blood in you. Good luck. See you on the other side." Jayde disappeared, leaving me behind in my room, soaked in blood. I wrote a note to Allyson explaining that I was leaving; then I headed off.
