Have you ever felt nothing at all? But at the same time, you still feel everything. That's what I'm feeling about the dinner.
I feel all kinds of emotions; I feel angry to my mom because she cheated, nervous for meeting her the first time in years, confused of why she came back, but overall I feel numb.
I smoothen the skirt of my dress. At first I didn't see the point of dressing up, since it's our house anyway. I can just go to the dinner thing with my PJ's and give no kinds of f's (I try not to swear).
But my dad insist that I put something nice. So here I am, staring at myself in the mirror. I'm wearing a baby blue short sleeved dress that I bought ages ago with Ally. I let my brown hair hang lose on my shoulders, it's pretty wavy since I put it in a bun for the whole day.
I walk downs stairs and find my mom already there, talking with my dad in the living room. She's telling him a story and he's just looking at her with dreamy eyes.
Mom looks up. "Oh, Madison, hi." She says, a little awkward, probably from the time we met earlier.
I don't know how to respond, should I approach her and give her a hug? Say hi?
So I just nod at her and turn to look at my dad who's still looking at mom, clearly with love and admiration. "Dad, where's Will?"
My dad didn't seem to hear me and is too focused on staring at his ex-wife who cheated on him. "Dad." I say again.
He turns his face to me. "Um, he said he was on his way, how about we start eating first whilst waiting for him?"
It's now 15 minutes through dinner and my brother is still not here. Did he bail? My mom did most of the talking, my dad responding to whatever she's talking about and me staying silent except if anyone asks me anything.
My mom is half way through her story about her neighbor when the doorbell rings. "I'll get it." I immediately say.
I open the front door, expecting my brother. But what do I see? A Devil wearing a blue buttoned-up shirt, almost the same shade of my dress.
And yes, I mean Dylan.
"You look even hotter in blue." The Devil–I meant, Dylan says, eyeing me up and down.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, clearly pissed.
"He's here to have dinner." Will appears from behind Dylan, not alone. But with the red haired girl, umm.. Marley!
And they were... holding hands.
I look at my brother and advert my eyes at their interlaced hands, I give him a 'you need some explanation to do' look before letting them in.
"Hi, Madison, it's nice to meet you again!" Marley says with her accent which is pretty cute. She's wearing a white dress and her red hair in curls.
"It's nice to meet you too." I say with a smile before Marley and Will walk to the dining room, my brother is clearly nervous but he'll be okay (hopefully).
And I am left with the Devil. (I made the decision to call him Devil now because it suits him more).
"We match." He states, wrapping his arm on my shoulder.
I slap it away and face him, he's still smirking at me. That Devil. "First, don't you dare touch me or I'll skin you alive. And it was a coincidence."
He rolls his eyes. "Stop denying it, babe, it's just fate that we're meant to be together."
"Were you born stupid or did your head got hit by a truck?"
He smirks. "Nope, I was born to be with you."
I can feel a blush creeping to my cheeks. "You're stupid."
"Stupidly in love with you." He shrugs.
Love.
No, he's just messing with you, Madison.
"Get lost." I say.
"But sunshine, I'm already lost in your eyes."
I roll my eyes before making my way back to the dining room, the Devil right beside me. The tension in the dining room is pretty dominant, I am guessing Amy has set up 2 extra places for the Devil and Marley.
My brother is now sitting beside my dad and Marley beside him, since our dining table is the shaped like a circle. He's staring down at his food, not sad or made, but just staring to space and thinking.
Marley looks a little concerned towards my brother but she tries to cover it up by eating the food.
"Oh Maddie, you're back, with..." My mom says, adverting her gaze at the Devil beside me.
"Hi, Mrs. Steele. I'm Dylan McAdams, Madison's boyfriend." Dylan says with a bright smile. I turn and look at him with mu eyes wide open, and he winks at me.
I thought we're only girlfriend and boyfriend in front of his parents, not mine. He wrap his arm around my shoulder, I'm about to push it away but then I see my mom's mouth gaped open.
My mom looks a little taken back from Dylan's response, I can't help but smirk.
I take my seat that I was in before and Dylan sits on the seat beside me.
"Um, so.. How did you guys start dating?" My mom asks, a little awkwardly.
