Echo immediately ran to the kitchen. "W-What happened?" she said. She put her hands on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. When she looked up she saw Starr holding her amulet. "Give that back!" Echo shouted. "Not unless you tell me what it is." Starr smirked as Echo remained silent. "I...don't know." Echo finally said. Starr sighed and gave Echo her amulet back. "All I know is that it fell out of my pocket." Echo admitted. Starr looked up for a moment then went back to her paperwork. Echo didn't seem to notice Starr's gaze was always drifting away from hers. "Why'd you go in my room anyways?" Echo asked. Starr clutched her fists. She wished Echo didn't say that. How would she be able to say it? "I was looking for a bracelet of mine..." Starr murmured. Echo looked at Starr's wrist and saw a silver bracelet with a pink star on it. "So what's the paperwork for?" Echo asked desperately trying to change the subject. "Oh just changing the house permit." Starr responded. "Why do you-" Echo was interrupted by Starr when she said, "So you can live here me for as long as you want!" Echo smiled at her. "Thanks! I' m going to go for a walk. I should be back around evening so don't worry about lunch for me." Echo said. As Echo started for the door, Starr saw Echo was still in her pajamas. "Don't forget to change!" Starr shouted right before Echo closed the door. Starr heard the door close and footsteps run upstairs. She laughed to herself. "She really is a good girl..."
Echo opened her drawers and found a light blue sundress and a pair of silver earrings. She put her amulet on the window sill. When she looked down she saw a small note in neat handwriting.
Hi,
I'm Jake, Starr's Neighbor. I'm also Kayden's brother. Will you meet me by the big oak tree?
Well bye! I hope I see you there around 1:30! :)
Echo was stunned by the note and glanced over at her clock. It was 1:20! Echo quickly opened her closet and found a pair of black sandals. She ran into her bathroom and put a layer of lipgloss on. She ran downstairs and asked Starr, "Where's the big oak tree?" Starr looked at Echo and arched her left eyebrow. "At the other side of the lake..." Starr responded. Before Starr had the chance to say anything else, Echo ran out the door forgetting to close it. "Come on Echo!" Starr said to herself. Starr didn't know what Echo was talking about so she went into Echo's room to look around.
Starr found the note and looked out the window. When she looked up she saw Echo meet up with Jake. Starr's eyes widened. How did Jake even know she was here? Kayden didn't see her. Starr watched as Jake led Echo into the forest. He would be perfect for her, she had an evil mother... he had an evil mother... "Shoot!" Starr shouted when she came to realization of what might happen. Yes, Kayden was cute... but Jake could make any girl fall for him. She couldn't let Jake take her friend away. Just like he did to Abby! "Abby was never found..." Starr thought aloud. She looked up again. Nobody was there... Just a knife... covered in... Starr didn't want to think about it. She threw on her jacket, put on her flats, and ran to the forest. "Echo!" she screamed. Silence. "Echo!" she screamed again. Silence. Starr was about to shout again when a hand covered her mouth. The voice of the hand said in a hoarse whisper, "Don't move."
