Chapter 3
19.06 – The desk-clock atop Aveline's bed-stand read in its dull black digits, suggesting that her project-mate and herself had been working on their utterly complicated assignment for over 2 hours now, neither of the two having expected this amount of time to be consumed over the task. They'd thought it would be a cake walk, especially Zayn, who was basically repeating his last year in school, due to reasons having arisen. However, both had soon realised how wrong their conjectures were, the tiny beads of sweat forming onto their foreheads, speaking evidently for the tough time they were dealing with.
"Why the hell isn't this working?! It's supposed to light up now!" Zayn exclaimed in irritation, twisting two copper wires using his fingers agitatedly, enraged over why that miniature light bulb wasn't glowing already.
"Lemme see," Aveline, quite mentally fatigued herself, over the difficulties they'd been facing to get that damned thing to work, shifted closer to Zayn on her bed. "Are you sure this is copper?" She questioned, scrabbling with the reddish wires in her hand.
"I don't know, I just asked for wires and they gave me these," Zayn shrugged, vaguely.
"You should've mentioned the metal, you idiot!" A mild chortle escaped Aveline, at the boy's carelessness. "Maybe this is iron; guess it's rusted," She spoke, keenly eyeing the thin strands in her hands.
"So?" Zayn asked, confused as to why that made a difference.
"Rusted iron never conducts electricity!" She exclaimed in sheer surprise and disbelief over why the scholar, that he claimed he was, wasn't aware of this simple information. "Zayn, are you sure you got a scholarship to study here?" A mocked eyebrow was quirked his way now, as an amused expression braced her face.
"I'm considering that an insult." The boy pulled a grumpy look across his face, now expecting a lighthearted apology.
"An insult it was," She chimed in, shocking him completely, as he turned to shoot her a playfully threatening look.
"You might wanna take that back," Zayn narrowed his eyes down onto her, rotating his body further and moving an inch closer to her, as she retreated away a little, both mimicking the activities of a predator and its prey.
"Never in a million years," She smirked, looking right into his eyes, taking the boy by surprise as to why she wasn't the least bit intimidated by his act.
"Well you should've," He curtly voiced, before pinning the girl down onto the bed, as he hovered over her body. He was quick to grip at her sides simultaneously, as his fingers wiggled and poked into her tender skin, tickling her with petite mercy.
An outburst of giggles and yelps escaped the imprisoned girl, as she helplessly struggled underneath the masculine body, trying to free herself from the ruthless tickles she was experiencing.
"Zayn, stop!" She managed to yell out, amidst her uncontrollable laughter that was echoing off the walls of her room now.
The plead only got the torment to heighten, as Zayn brought a devious smirk over his face, utterly content with his cruelty. "Never in a million years," He parroted his prisoner, even giving her high pitched female voice a try, as she punched him across the chest.
"I can't breathe!" She protested, as he continued to dig at her sides.
"Should've given that a thought before insulting me," He smirked down at her, job being carried out obstinately.
"F-f-fine, I take it back," Aveline choked out through trembling lips, watching as the smirk on Zayn's face dwindled, the jovial shade of brown in his eyes transforming into a cloudy one, as a sudden halt was caused to the tickling. Withdrawing his hands off her, he rolled over onto his back, before hoisting himself upright onto the bed.
