Chapter 12
A pair of narrowed eyes ogled into her opponent's face, as she took a hold of the first shot of vodka that she was absolutely ready to down (or so she believed).
"This is war, Horan." Aveline declared with the glare unaltered.
"Bring it on love," The blonde boy jokingly winked, clearly disregarding her threat.
It wasn't long until the two had inundated entirely into the drinking game. The rules were simple: Keep downing the shots until you can no more; the first one to stop is obviously the loser. Glass after glass disappeared from the bar counter, the amount of alcohol in their bodies peaking at an incredible rate.
"Right Aveline, I'm pretty sure that's enough," Zayn interrupted, genuinely concerned of Aveline's condition. He knew she was never a fan of inundating oneself in liquor and mostly liked to drink mildly alcoholic cocktails. She wasn't capable of handling that much alcohol and he knew that.
"Psshh," Frowning Aveline placed a finger on his lips, shushing the protesting boy. "I've got something to prove here," She reminded, causing Zayn to involuntarily roll his eyes.
"You've proved it. We've all witnessed how well you can drink." Zayn reasoned, now beginning to get somewhat agitated. "You need to stop." He stated in a slightly more commanding tone, but who was he kidding? Nothing, in Aveline's words, could apparently stop her from proving to Niall that she indeed was not the kid, that he had accused her of being.
"Chickening out Avy?" Niall teased with a smirk, unknowingly arousing anger in Zayn who struggled to resist a shout that he was ready to throw at Niall.
"No, hope you're not!" Was Aveline's reply, as she chugged another mouthful of the bitter lemon flavoured vodka. A harsh dizziness, that she wouldn't admit to, had now begun to overcome her forehead.
Some friends and acquaintances surrounding the table seemed to be rather enjoying the competition, cheering the 2 on. Zayn, on the other hand, could clearly see how wobbly Aveline was becoming and he found it difficult to believe how ridiculously inconsiderate those cheering friends were. He stood impatient in his position, quite desperately trying to get Aveline to stop.
Another shot through and Aveline found herself losing control of her body completely, her hand flying to grip her aching forehead, as she toppled towards the floor. The spectators mouthed an unexpected "Ooh," in a reflex action, as an awfully anxious Zayn instantly wrapped two steady arms around her, keeping her from collapsing onto the floor.
"I told you to stop." He mouthed to the intoxicated girl in anger, snaking an arm around her waist sturdily, while throwing hers over his shoulder to keep her balanced.
"Noo.. I'm not done..." She whined several protests along those lines, as Zayn hauled her out of the club that the wedding after-party was taking place at.
