Ice was kind of scared how BIG her father was, and broad shoulder's, hawk-like amber eyes, and fur in which her and her brother got from him. Yet her brother had a big black spot on his head (Look at that in the cover) and she just had a splotched mess of mixed colors. RoachClaw meow "Hello, Ice and Patch, how are my two strong kits?" Ice flinched at how deep his mew was and it made her very uncomfortable. Yet on the other hand her brother asked dozens of questions "How old are you? What do you do when your not here? Do you hunt? How many cats are there in the woods all together?"

"Older than your mother, I help my clan, yes I hunt frogs and birds, and a LOT to even count." RoachClaw replied with a very good temper. Ice studied her dad more, like her mother had said, he did have a grey muzzle, but he was still bold and strong. Her brother chirped like a crow with more questions. Ice purred and leaned on her brother to shut him up. Scruffy padded up and nudged her mates muzzle and rubbed him on his side.

RoachClaw whispered something and Ice's mother stopped rubbing admittedly and snorted out loud "Your kidding!" RoachClaw murmured "No..." Scruffy sighed and looked at the kits and turned back to him "They're not leaving my sight!" The tom snorted "OK, come with us." "I can't leave my housefolk!" "OK, then say good bye to them and they'll come with me, or you can keep one and I'll get the other." Scruffy bat him on the head and growled "They aren't just finder's keepers! You stupid tom! They are living things!"

A slam sounded from the front door and angry foot steps came from the kitchen. Scruffy sighed and rubbed her head on her mates "You need to go." Ice sadly looked at her father and meowed "You'll come again, right?" RoachClaw bounded up the fence and nodded "I'll always look after you and your brother, and protect you with my life."

Ice watched as he bounded down the fence and out of view. Patch slowly mewed "That went well." Ice flicked her gaze around and didn't see her mother. Patch was looking too and meowed "She's probable in the house." Ice nodded and pushed her way through the cat flap and saw a terrible view. Something a kitten should never see, or understand.
