I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I decided to just let it ring but I couldn't go back to sleep afterward. Groaning, I sat up in bed and took my phone off the charger.
"Hello?" Please don't let it be Lily. I don't want to do another shopping spree.
"Margo? Did I wake you up?" My brain immediately wakens up.
"Dad. No its fine. What's up?"
"The usual. I just wanted to check up on you."
"Oh. I'm doing okay. I'm going to get school supplies with Dylan and Eli."
"That's great Margo. So you're applied for everything? Are you thinking about volleyball again? You were great at that." Not that he would really know he hardly watched the game when he did come.
"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it."
"You should. You're going to have lots of fun at this school. I can feel it."
"I miss you Dad."
"I miss you too honey. Hey I have to go but keep in touch, okay?"
"Okay." I hang up and lay back down. I rub my eyes and that's when I realize that I was crying. I want to go home. After a few more minutes of crying I get a text from Dylan.
Be there in ten! :)
I get out of bed and tell Eli to get ready but he's already in the kitchen eating cereal with Mom.
"Mom. You're actually home?" She turns around to grab something off the counter but she doesn't make eye contact with me. Go figure.
"Actually I'm in a hurry. I've got to run to work."
"On a Saturday?"
"Duty calls." She makes her way towards the kitchen doorway where I'm standing.
"Well I need your card. Eli, Dylan, and I are doing school shopping." She sighs and stops. She hands me her coffee to hold while she digs in her purse. She hands me her card and takes her coffee from me.
"I'm already late as it is Margo." She says annoyed.
"It's only getting later." I mumble. I walk back upstairs to change.
"Do you think I should play volleyball again?" I ask Dylan as we stand by the basket full of school supplies. Eli is picking out some markers.
"Do you want to?" Dylan asks. I shrug.
"I don't know what I want."
"Why do you want to play?"
"Cause my dad thinks I should try it again."
"Then you should. Not just for your dad but for you too. If you don't like it you can always quit."
"I'll try it again if you try baseball again." I tell him. He walks to the side of the basket where I'm leaning against it and holds me by the waist. He kisses my neck and leans his chin on my shoulder.
"Why does it matter if I play baseball again or not?"
"Because I know you miss it. I can tell." I turn around in his arms. "I see that look you get when Eli is at one of his games and when y'all are playing around at the park." Instead of saying anything he kisses me. I push him after a second.
"We're in public." He gives me a mischievous smile and kisses me again.
"Ok guys that's enough." Eli says. There's a thump in the basket.
"Seriously guys." Liz's voice breaks me out of my trance and Dylan and I break apart. "That's disgusting."
"Hey Liz." Dylan says.
