Chapter 6 [Adora's POV]

It was well past 11:30 pm when Daniel finished reading the stories. I felt closer to my parents after hearing the stories and I felt like I found a missing piece of my heart. I glanced into the box and a video tape caught my eye, it said November 25th and nothing more.

I took it out and said "Daniel what is this?"

He looked at the tape like it was a foreign object. He said "I really don't know my aunt would never let me watch it. She said that if I met you in the future we should watch it together."

I said "Well that makes me curious. Why do we have to watch it together? I wonder what's on it? Hmmm Daniel can we watch it now?"

He looked at me puzzled and said "You do realize it's almost 12 am? Also the movie room is probably locked by now."

"Where's you sense of adventure? I bet we could get inside if we tried."

Daniel chuckled and said "Well I guess I have to have a sense of adventure with you around. Come on I think we'll be able to do it if we're silent."

Daniel grabbed a camouflage bag from off the floor and tip toed out of the room while I followed close behind him. I didn't realize how old the Big Smiles Orphanage was until I was trying to sneak around. The pressure from our steps made the floorboards squeak. We had to make our way to the center of the orphanage where the movie room was located across from the dining hall. What had always seemed like a short walk was taking forever now. I was trying to walk in sync with Daniel but his strides were longer than mine and he was well ahead of me. Every time the floor creaked we would pause and examine the area because Eric usually walked around the halls at night and we couldn't risk getting caught.

After tip toeing for a while we reached the rust colored door that belonged to the movie room. Daniel tried the door handle but like we assumed it was locked. I looked at him puzzled when he started to smile at me and began rummaging through his bag. He pulled out two things that looked like miniature chisels. He proceeded in putting them in the lock and fiddling with it. A little while later we heard a click sound; he twisted the handled and the door creaked open.

I had a big grin on my face and whispered "How did you that? Oh my gosh you're amazing. I can't believe you..."

My praises were interrupted by a firm hand grabbing my shoulder. I turned around to see Eric scowling down toward me and Daniel.

Daniel was wide eyed when he said "Hey Eric what's up?"

Eric scowled and said "Don't what's up me Daniel. Explain yourselves."

I looked from Daniel to Eric and back to Daniel only to see a stubborn and defiant look on his face.

I averted my gaze and said "Um I accidentally left my bracelet in the movie room so I asked Daniel if he could get it for me."

"At 12 something in the morning?" He had his eyebrow raised, I knew he wouldn't believe me but I just had to say something.

I said "Well yeah, because it's my favorite one and I just noticed that it was missing. I couldn't wait till the morning because it might get mistaken as trash and get thrown away."

I ended my sentence with a short nervous laugh as if I was expecting him to relate to my unnecessary worries. He shook his head, probably disappointed at how stupid my excuse was.

Eric said "Adora I could have come up with a better lie in my sleep. Now tell me the real reason why you're out here."

Daniel put his hand to his face sighed and shook his head. He got up and put his arm around Eric's shoulder.

He said "Eric I didn't want to bring this up but you still owe me a favor for helping you out of your little situation last month. I think throwing this under the rug as payment should be fair seeing as I can always undo what I did. What do you say?"

Beads of sweat were coming from Eric's brow when he aggressively whispered to Daniel. He said "I thought you said I didn't have to pay you back since it was a minor job."

Daniel smiled and said "I changed my mind. So are you going to pursue this or go back to your room?"

Eric's face was distorted with anger and disgust he almost threw Daniel's arm off his shoulder and he mumbled things under his breath as he walked away from us.

I looked at Daniel and said "What was that all about?"

He shrugged his shoulders and entered the room saying "It's nothing important or anything you should worry about. We're in and he's gone so lets just see what's on the tape."

I reluctantly followed behind the person I felt I knew less about with each passing second.

He turned around and I saw the face of the kind and compassionate Daniel again he said "Adora what's wrong don't you want to see what's on the tape?"

I walked to him and stared into his hazel eyes. I said "Of course I want to know what's on the tape but I don't feel I know you anymore. We only met yesterday but I felt like I knew you my whole life because you always had a warm atmosphere that made me feel like we were connected. But, I don't know anymore, you didn't look like Daniel outside but a whole other person had taken your place. What was that Daniel tell me?"

He looked down and said "It's nothing like I said before, he just owes me a favor so don't fret so much over nothing. Besides I'm the same Daniel, nothing has changed just trust me."

He reached out his hand and looked at me urging me to take it. I looked toward the door and abruptly grabbed his hand.

When I looked up he smiled and said "Now was that so hard, come on we wasted a lot of time."
