Mission Rogue (X-men Evolution Fan-fic)

Part 8

X23 and I ran to the hanger and flew off in the X-Velocity to Tuvalu. As we flew over the country, we got a call from Kurt at the Institute.

"Rogue," he said. "Thank goodness I reached you. Jean, Scott, and Storm have seemed to have gone missing from the Institute, and we can't reach the Professor. We think Magneto may have something to do with this, but we have no way of transportation to get to his secret base!"

X23 and I looked at each other. X23 told him not to worry and that we would take care of things.

"How could I not worry!" Kurt exclaimed. "I'm trusting you with my sister to fight the master of magnets!"

Then, the phone connection was cut off. I looked at X23 and saw she had stopped the call. She smiled at me and I did the same back.

We soon passed over California and reached the Pacific Ocean. The ocean seemed to shine at our arrival, as though it felt the evil on Tuvalu. In a matter of minutes, we saw the island appear on the horizon. I flipped a switch that turned on the camouflage for the X-Velocity.

We landed on the beach, got out, and stood on the white sand. I could smell salt from the ocean and could feel the breeze it brought. X23 turned to me.

"So how will we find Magneto's base," she asked.

"My guess is to walk into the jungle until we find a metal base," I said with a laugh.

We walked through the trees, cutting down branches that were in our way. After ten minutes, we saw it. In the middle on the jungle, was a clearing, and in the clearing was a giant, metal base.

"Guess we found it," X23 said.

We walked into the clearing until we were right next to the base. I told X23 to grab my hand. She did this and I was able to phase us through. We ended up in a long hallway. X23 sniffed the air and told me we had to go left. We went this way and came to a dead end.

"Now what," I asked her.

She pointed to a vent big enough for us to get through. We opened the vent and crawled inside. I turned back to the opening and put the vent back in place. We crawled through the passageway, with X23 at the lead. She turned to me and told me that they were close. We soon came to another vent. It was higher than the one we entered in.

We looked out the vent and saw a large room that seemed to be like a lab. A large piece of machinery was against one of the walls, while against the others were containers. We looked closely and saw that in the containers were people.

Suddenly, the vent gate fell and X23 and I fell through and landed on the ground. While X23 landed on the ground like a cat, I landed with a loud thud. I suddenly felt like I was being watched by many eyes. X23 helped me get up, when suddenly we heard feet coming down the hall. We sprang behind a nearby container when the door had opened. Coming into the room was Magneto.

"The time has almost come," he said. "Once Colossus returns, we will begin the process."

I jumped when I heard the Professor's voice.

"What are you doing this for Magneto?" he asked.

Magneto laughed and said, "I plan on using the DNA of the most powerful mutants in the world to create an even more powerful mutant. This process can be sometimes be painful or can forever strip you of your powers."

"So you're taking our powers to genetically create a more powerful mutant," I heard Jean's voice say. "And you are willing to kill us to do it."

Magneto laughed, turned, and left the room. After a minute or two, I stepped out of my hiding place. I jumped when I suddenly heard my name being called. But it was not out loud, but in my head. I spun around and saw the Professor in one of containers. I gasped in shock.

"Professor!" I thought, for I knew due to his powers he could read my mind. "What happened?"

"Magneto," he replied simply. "When I arrived in England to recruit a new mutant, Magneto was there and he kidnapped me, along with the new mutant."

I looked around and saw that many mutants were in the containers. Along with the Professor, I saw Logan, Storm, Scott, Jean, Gambit, and a girl with purple hair whom I had never seen. I heard faint footsteps approaching the room.

I looked and saw that X23 had heard them too. I ducked behind the mysterious piece of machinery and waited. If Magneto was going to take DNA from everyone, then this might be the control console. I heard the door open and the sound of footsteps. I peeked out from my place behind the machine and saw Colossus put a young girl with yellow hair into the last container.

I ducked into my place when I saw Magneto enter the room once more.

"Excellent job," he said to Colossus, who then turned and left. "Now the process may begin."

Magneto came over to where I was hiding and played with some buttons on the dashboard, getting it ready. He then turned, said for everyone to get comfortable, and then left. When he was gone, X23 and I began to look for a way to stop the machine. When we tried to deactivate it, nothing worked! X23 searched the rest of the machine, while I looked around the containers to see if there was a way to stop the process.

When I did not find anything, my heart began to sink. X23 then exclaimed she had discovered a way to release our friends.

"We just need to destroy the controls," she said to me.

"Do that and your friends may not live," a strong voice said.

We turned and saw Magneto, Sabretooth, Pyro, and Colossus standing in the doorway.

We stared at them in shock. From behind me, I could hear the others gasping. Sabertooth took a step forward, but Magneto simply said his name, and he stopped. Magneto then raised his hand and I saw X23 being pushed by an invisible force into a container that had just risen from the floor. She was thrown in and the container sealed her in.

I turned to Magneto. I was not happy. First he kidnaps my friends and family, then he wants to suck their powers right out of them for his own evil purpose. Magneto lifted his hand again and pulled a metal beam off the ceiling and, using his powers, threw it straight at me. It hit me with such force, I flew in the air. I was soon pinned up on the wall like a picture with the beam wrapped around me.

As Magneto walked over to the controls, I suddenly heard another voice in my head. But it was not one I recognized. I looked around for its source, searching the room. Then, I heard another voice. I was very confused, then remembered that Magneto had captured two other girls. I looked down at them and saw them staring at me.

"Please," the first voice said. "You have to help us."

"Who are you?" I thought.

But before I could get an answer from either of the voices, I heard grunts of pain. I looked and saw that Magneto had begun his painful, extraction process.
