Do you hear it? That sound in your head, casting a spell over you? Well, I do. I didn't know what it was, at first. I suddenly sat up from my bed, covered in sweat. Gently lifting the covers and started walking out of my room. I could still hear it, I couldn't even describe the sound. Maybe, it's a mix of a hum, and a bell chime. Just a little melody, playing in my head. I walked down the hallway to the top of the stairs.
"Hello." I whispered to the empty area. Everyone is gone, my brother, sisters, and my mother. Trying to quietly walk down the stairs, I stopped on a creaky step. The sound seemed to stop everything, the little melody stopped, my breathing stopped. I could almost feel the air moving, just for some kind of noise to make.
Again, I whispered "hello." The melody came back, the creepiness of the dark tone playing in the air. I continued down the steps, making sure not to step on another creaky one. The music kept playing, but the rhythm changed suddenly. I finally made it all the way down. The music sounded like it came from the family room. I walked across the entry way and pass the kitchen.
I stopped when I saw the shadow of a man, sitting at the baby grand piano. The sweat started up again, my fear rising as the melody continued. Quietly going back to the kitchen, I grabbed the knife from the holder and went back into the family room. He just kept playing and playing, seeming not to move at all.
Lifting the knife i made my way closer. I walked up behind him and switched on the light from beside me. He screamed and jumped up from the bench. I saw the familiar face staring at me with wide eyes full of surprise.
"What the heck are you doing here this late, Scotty?" I almost screamed at him.
"Me? You want to know what I'm doing here!" I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want to know the answer.
"Yes, you idiot! I want to know why one of my best friends, decided to come over at 4am, and play-"
"Wait a minute!" He interrupted. I huffed, annoyed at him. "I wasn't playing."
I looked at him confused. "What do you mean? I heard you."
"I swear, I wasn't playing. I was just sitting down on the bench, thinking of yo- ... something."
"Bu- but, I heard the piano being played. What the heck was I hearing?" Im feeling scared. I walked into the kitchen and turned on the light. Sitting on a stool with my hands together on the counter. Turning to him, I saw an expression of confoundedness.
"Anna, I'm sure it was just a neighbor. There are so many explanations for this." Great, he probably thought I was crazy now.
"No! I heard the piano being played! The one in our house! Did you not hear it?"
"No, I didn't. Lets just ignore this. I'm sure it was a neighbor or something." He didn't hear it. I felt my stomach drop. I started nodding my head.
"Yeah, I bet you're right." I let out a nervous laugh. "Lets go to bed. I'm really tired."
"Okay. Well, I better get back home. Before your Mom gets home." He pulled me to the stairs and walked towards the front door.
"I'll see you tomorrow. Right, Scotty?" I asked quietly.
He turned back to me. "Yep, goodnight. See ya." I smiled a little and headed up the stairs to my bedroom. Going through the hallway, I saw family photos. My favorite one was of my older brother and my father. The smiles they had would soon be gone after that was taken, even though they had no idea at the time. Do you think God gives us a sign, or a warning that something will happen? I wish he would, so we could've prepared ourselves the best we would be able too.
My eyes teared up, I barely cry anymore. I still feel numb, even though he left us two years ago. The date was coming up, I knew my family would be slightly depressed as it came closer. Silla, my second oldest sister, made the mistake of mentioning it last year. We all paused and stared at her. She payed no attention too it, of course. My mother waled out of the room, a couple seconds later I heard loud sobbing. We all stopped talking about it after that.
But, something else started happening. A few months ago, my brother started getting into more trouble. Like, getting kicked out of college for not upholding his grades or attending classes. My oldest sister, Rachael, started going out every night and coming home at 12:00PM. Thankfully, my sister Silla, got away from it all. Married a great guy, from my opinion and started her own family. She now has a son and a daughter on the way. Although, I don't get to see them much, with them living two hours away. My mom doesn't know about anything anymore. She comes home from work in the after noon, stays a few minutes to eat, and goes back to work. It wasn't like this before. Her being a lawyer, she used to make time for us. Now, all I get is a quick hi and bye.
I laid down in my bed and kept thinking of my family, the changes that have happened. How its changed my life, and how I wish I could go back. To before I heard the music at night, keeping me awake. Shivering, not from coldness. I don't feel safe anymore, at night especially.
I started hearing the music a month ago. Once a week, to every other night. Now, it's every night. It's a beautiful song, hauntingly beautiful. I'm scared of what it means. Maybe, I am crazy. After what happened, I can't be involved with anything. Now, it's just "maybe" to every question. My teachers have given up, my family ignores me. I won't talk to the counselor at school. My grades have never been the best, but now they have no value at all. School is coming back after the winter vacation ends, next week. I have five days to prepare myself for the horror that will begin.
I'm hoping the music stops soon. But, I know it won't.

Hey, I'm Emma, the author of 'The Song I Hear'. So, I've made a sort of commitment to this book. I know that I haven't written much. Decided today that there will be an update every one and a half to two weeks. I write some everyday, and I'm hoping you'll like it. I'm serious about comments. I don't need votes, I'm after comments. Just spend a minute typing out something like 'Good job or terrible, and I hate it.'. Really, I want too know what you think about it.
Love, Emma. :)
