I slowly stirred awake as I felt the cold bed next to me, my mother must have got up before me. I sigh as I turn over and rubbed the tiredness out of my eyes, suddenly smelling the scent of bacon. I groaned, it felt like my body was sinking further into the bed the more I tried to get up. I fought the feeling as I slowly got up, slipping on some fuzzy socks in the process.
I exited my room and trotted down the stairs to find my mother at the stove with Sadie and Ethan helping out with breakfast.
"Aw, Kate, come here." Sadie jogged over to me, pulling me into a warm hug, "He was an asshole anyways."
I sighed as I relaxed into her arms as I felt another pair of arms wrap around us, Ethan. I inhaled the scent of his light cologne as I held onto my two best friends, I don't know where I would be without them. I'm so glad that they've healed well since the accident. We all pulled away as Sadie joined me on the bar stools at the kitchen island.
"Before you say anything, you were bound to tell them anyways." My mother points her spatula at me, giving me the motherly look. I raise my arms in defence,
"You're right, mum, I wasn't going to say anything." I laughed. I rubbed my eyes again, they were still sore from last nights cry fest but I'm sure I look even worse. Sadie rubbed my back,
"Sleepover at Ethan's tonight? I think you need some friend time."
"I think I agree." I smiled weakly. Ethan placed a plate of pancakes and bacon in front of me as I smiled cheekily, "care to pass the syrup?"
"Jeez, princess." Ethan laughed sarcastically as he slid the syrup to me. Sadie's mouth dropped,
"I thought I was your princess?"
My mother laughs as Ethan replies, "there's enough room in the castle."
.....
I enter the large home of the Dolans and Lisa greets me with a huge hug.
"Hello my beautiful daughter!" Lisa squeezed me tightly as I hugged back, giggling. "Make yourself at home, you know the rules." Lisa smiled, returning to the living room.
I take my bag up to Cameron's old bedroom, at least since she left for college. I kind of feel guilty using her room because most of her stuff is in here but Lisa insisted. I set my bag on the bed as Ethan greeted me at the doorway,
"Movie night?" Ethan asks.
"You know it." I smile.
"Whoop whoop!" Ethan pumps his fist as he races downstairs to make some popcorn.
I smile sheepishly, he's so corny. I start looking around Cameron's room out of curiosity. It's actually so beautiful and modern. Light grey sheets were spread over her bed, the curtains matching along with the dresser. Plenty of pictures were scattered out along the top, only one was framed. I pick up the old photo with two adults, two boys, and a girl. My eyebrows furrow, the boys look identical and the woman shares the same worn out smile as Lisa.
"The popcorn is-" Ethan barges in, but notices the photo in my hand.
"Ethan, who are these people?" I ask, pointing to the photo in my hands. I feel Ethan grow nervous as his shoulders slump. He slowly walks into the room and picks up the photo.
"This was my family." He admits, rubbing his thumb over the wooden frame. "That's me," he points to the little boy on the right, "That's Cameron," then the little girl, "and that's mom" he stops, handing me back the photo.
"Well what about your dad and your brother?" I ask, wondering why he never talks about his family.
"Yeah, that's my father, Sean, and my brother, Grayson." His lips press together as he runs his fingers through his hair.
"As in, G Dolan? He's your brother?" I ask.
"Yes, he's my twin." Ethan dropped his arm down, almost as if he's ashamed.
"Ethan, why didn't you ever talk about this?" I ask, setting the photo down on the dresser, "I knew you guys were at least cousins."
"It's a long story, it just hurts." He starts, "My Dad left when we were really young and he got custody over Grayson." His eyes begin to water, "every time I see Grayson I just can't help but feel angry because he took our fathers side."
"Oh, E." I lightly rub his arm as I pull him into a hug, "you know you can talk to me about anything." I state, my words a bit muffled by his shoulder. He nods as he lets out a deep breath, pulling away before he begins crying.
"I want to fix things," Ethan's mood changes, "but I don't know how."
"Take it one day at a time." I rub Ethan's arm as he straightens himself out.
"Okay. Right now, movie time. I think we both need it." He sighs and I nod in agreement. This day can't get any more interesting.

My phone begins to ring in the middle of the movie, pulling me out of my daze. It's Grayson. I quickly answer and put the phone up to my ear,
"Hey Kate." He slurs.
"Hey G."
"I miss you."
"Are you drunk?"
"Just a lil'" he giggles.
"Are you safe? Please don't drive."
"Don't worry, I'm in my bed." He laughs hysterically. He was definitely wasted.
"Okay G, I have to go, I'm watching a movie."
"I love youuuu." He drags and I hear muffling before he hangs up the phone.
I laugh and shake my head. As long as he was safe drinking. I couldn't help but wonder why he said he missed and loved me? Drunk words are sober thoughts.
Did Grayson really like me?
