Momma sat in the driver seat, talking to Jacob. We were on our way to papaws. "Momma why couldn't Seth come?" I asked in a small voice, my chest aching slightly, as I waited for her answer, but it never came. The car was silent until Jacob turned and looked at me with a goofy grin."Seth was a little busy today. He and Leah had to watch the house why we go to grandpa Charlie's." He said, ruffling my hair, making me smile slightly. Jacob was fun to be around. He was always goofy. Always acting stupid.
We pulled into the driveway, and the car came to a small halt. I watched as grandpa walked down the steps. Jacob got Nessie out, and walked her towards the house. "Momma why can't you stay?" I asked as we approached grandpa.
"You guys are getting so big!" He picked us up in a hug, making both of us giggle slightly. "Alright, we got a Christmas tree to decorate." He smiled, walking us up the steps.
"Actually, I've got a few erands to run." Momma said, shaking her head slightly.
"Really?" Grandpa asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he spoke. "What about the tree?" He asked, and momma sighed.
"I'm sorry dad. Just spend the day with the girls. They've never decorated a tree before." Momma said, and we were led into the house without another word.
"Hey girls." Sue, which was now grandpas New girlfriend said, smiling slightly.
"Hi Sue." I said softly
"Hey Sue." Ness smiled, and looked back and Jacob for a quick moment.
"This tree isn't gonna decorate itself." I looked over at grandpa and he was standing beside a pine tree, just a few inches taller than he was.
Ness ran up to him, and they began decorating the tree, while Jacob and I ate a sandwhich. "You miss him, don't you?" He asked, never taking his eyes off of Ness.
"I haven't seen him for a couple days." I replied softly, taking another bite of my sandwhich. "Of course I miss him." I sighed, laying my sandwhich on the plate in front of me.
Sue looked at me, cocking her head to one side, before walking up to me. She placed her hand on my shoulder, and kissed the top of my head. "It'll be okay, Genny." She mumble in my hair, and we walked over to Granpa, helping him and Ness decorate the tree.
"You guys are coming here for Christmas, right?" Grandpa asked, placing a sparkly bulb on one of the branches.
Ness nodded her head, placing a different colored bulb on a different branch. "I think so." She smiled sweetly, handing me a green Christmas bulb. "Put it there." She pointed to a branch, an I hooked it onto it, making it sag down slightly.
"Alright, time for the finishing touch." He pulled a star and smiled. "Who wants to put it up?" He asked, looking from me to Nessie.
"I do!" Ness squealed, making me laugh at her. Grandpa picked her up and she gently placed the star on the very top of the tree. Jacob smiled over at her, and grandpa put her on the ground. "Great job, Ness." He said smiling at her.
It wasn't long before momma was back, and she walked into the house, her face grim. "Momma!" I cried, running over to her." She smiled, an picked me up, kissing my cheek,
"Hey Princess. Are you ready to go home?" She asked, looking at me, seeing that Ness was fast asleep on the couch.
"Yeah." I let out a soft yawn, and she smiled.
"Jake, can you get Renesmee?" Mom asked, as I laid my head on her shoulder. I didn't hear his response, but I heard Mom say goodbye to Grandpa, and Sue before we left.
