Chapter 12

(Elsie’s P.O.V)

“Lana, where are you? We are going to be late for school.” I heard Grace through the bathroom door, but made no motion to hurry up. The water in the bathtub was cold, and I stayed there with my head lying on the side. My body felt heavy along with what I was feeling. The last person I had that was close to a family member was gone. I was angry alright, more than that because maybe if she didn’t ever know me then it would have been better.

With a big push through the door, Brian looked at me with sympathizing eyes and that turned dark and curious. Everything I did and everywhere where I went seemed to pique Brian’s interest in me. I felt his gaze more often now than any time before and it was more than his level of crazy. If I acted differently, he would bring it up almost like he was questioning me.

While Brian’s feet were plastered to the ground, Grace pushed him out of the way and hurriedly brought a towel in front of me. Her warm hands touched my skin making her move faster while scolding me for staying in the tub for too long. Grace called Brian to come help to get me out. When he touched me, I wanted to get away, but that would be weird.

Going to my room, he placed me on the bed. Grace quickly shooed him away and came next to my bed. “Lana, are you okay?” I only nodded as she looked at my eyes. I could see that she didn’t think I was okay, but she left anyway. “Just hurry, okay.”

When I came home from that night that April died, I didn’t feel like doing much or speaking really. The Robinsons wanted to know what was up with me, but I never said anything. Megan was nice enough to let me stay from school for a bit, but not anymore. I quickly got dressed and headed down the stairs. My breakfast was placed on the table and I ate it then headed out the door.

“Get in Lana” I stepped closer to Brian’s truck and saw that it wasn’t just Grace and Brian. Marcus was also there in a pale green long sleeved shirt that showed his muscles and a black leather jacket over his shoulder. He flashed his white teeth at me and held out a hand to help me in the back seat.

“When did you start riding with us?” I asked him. His smile turned into one of his smirks and then helped me into the car, before getting in the truck.  Brian wasn’t the only one acting different. Marcus was everywhere now hanging around the house, making sure I was okay or not, and even got under the good graces of Grace. It was something that I couldn’t place, but every time since I overheard Brian and him I would have this bad feeling in my body whenever I’m around them.

It didn’t take long to get to the school, but as soon as we got there I became nervous. There was a person I was trying to avoid ever seeing again, because even though I tried to stop thinking about him, he would be the main character in my dreams. As we walked into the doors of the school, something felt off. Since I haven’t exactly been going for an attendance award, I didn’t expect for eyes to be on me.

“What happened?” I didn’t mean to say it out loud, but it came out. Hearing a chuckle from behind me, I turned to see Ava coming up beside me and hooking her arm with mine. She flipped her hair and brought me to a stop. “People have been eagerly awaiting you to come back to school, seeing that you have been the talk for some time.” She brought her hand on my shoulder and pressed harder than what I expected from a human. I moved away quickly from her grasp. Her eyes seemed to glow, while I backed away.

With quick movements, Brian came towards me and pushed me out of the way at the same time Marcus pulled Ava away. For a moment, the two looked at each other with cold eyes. My eyes met Ava’s and she was slightly shaking silently looking back and forth between them. I lost my footing and fell to the ground. Marcus saw my little action and looked at Ava. He took her by the arm, and left immediately pushing everyone who got in their way.
