Chapter 17

Okay, so it's been a long while since I updated. I go through so many drafts and constantly change my mind of how I want the story to continue along with everything else that is life. I appreciate all the votes, comments, and follows so much that it makes me smile. Thanks and here is Chapter 17.

(Owen’s P.O.V)

“What is the purpose of an Alpha?” My father gripped his glasses by the sides and neatly closed them placing them in front of him. Leaning back in his chair he unbuttoned the first three buttons from his shirt and quickly rolled up the sleeves. The Alpha ran one of his hands through his hair and stared down at me with his amber eyes. The sigh filled his office as I sat in the chair in front of him.

“The purpose of an Alpha, this is what you got me out of school for? I thought you had something serious for me to do.” Leaning back in the chair, I dropped my head off the back looking towards the door.

“Owen, there is nothing that is more important than this. Maybe going to school, but even I don’t expect that much from you.” He chuckled a little and turned away from me grabbing what looked like a book. “Here look at this picture.” Taking the book I saw an old photo of my father about the age that I am now with his arms around my mother and Elsie’s dad.

“Why are you showing me this?” I placed the photo back in the book and caught my father still looking at the picture with a little smile spread on his face.

“This man showed me the true meaning of being an Alpha. You know why I never get on you for the stupid things you and your friends do?” A laugh came out of my mouth as I realized all the stuff that I have done and the way I have been for quite a while now.

“No one wants to be an Alpha, and if they do they don’t know exactly what it entails. I’ll admit I was there once. I was one cocky guy until I met your mom and Chris. I met them my first year of high school when their pack switch to our school. I didn't like him at first. I mean who could he was a pretty lovable guy and the next in line Alpha of the Moonlight Pack. Our pack was bigger and stronger than his and he had the nerve to creep up on my territory is what I thought in the beginning.” While he reminisce the memory in his head, I sat there thinking of how come I never knew any of this.

“So mom was part of the Moonlight Pack too? Why haven’t you told me any of this?” He stilled in his seat and spun around facing his back towards me.

“Your mother came from another pack named Red Moon Valley, they didn't treat her good. They followed very old rules and the people in her old pack were ruthless. She was twelve when she escaped them and came to Chris’s pack. He helped her find her voice and strength even when he was a boy himself. She loved him very much sometimes I think she loved him more than she loved me.” I could hear the resentment in his voice in the beginning, but he laughed it off. “Could you imagine when she found out that I was her mate or when she first saw Melanie?” He started to laugh, but it died down to a serious tone. “I guess we never told you because it hurts to talk about them.”

The silence in the room became uncomfortable, but I wanted to hear more of the stories about my parents’ lives back then and more importantly I wanted to find out about Elsie’s parents. “What about mom’s first pack? What happened to them?”

“They are dead. Unfortunately, the council was somewhat unforgiving at that time. It caused an uproar between the packs. Some of the packs thought that it shouldn't have ended that way and tried to get the head of the council banished. He didn't go silently at first, but he did in fact leave.” My father’s eyes glowed and his hands gripped the sides of his chair.

“Why only him? Didn't you say the council was unforgiving? No one else was told to leave, how is that possible?” I could feel the air in the room become thick and then my father breathed in closing his eyes then letting the air go.
