There wasn’t much, just a few posters with throwing stars littered beneath them, or stuck to the bullseye. I see a chair in the corner of the small room, and hesitantly sit down on it. I sniffle quietly, before seeing him staring at me. “S-sorry…” I say, looking at my hands in my lap. “Nah. Don’t be sorry, for feeling the emotions you can’t control.” He says plopping into the bed. I nod, pulling my knees to my chest. I blush slightly as I watch him stretch before laying down, which had made his muscles flex… wait. ‘Am I falling for a giant mutant turtle?!!’ I think to myself, I mean… He did save me, and was super cool to me, fixed my arm, brought me here to stay for a fat minute. ‘He is slightly handso- SHUT UP ADIE!!!’ I mentally slap myself, and as I continued to argue with my fluttering butterflies, I ended up passing the fudge out, still curled into a ball.
~The Next Morning~
I wake up to my body being shook. I crack my eyes, almost jumping out of my skin, but then the memories of last night flooded back into me, as I relaxed and stared into the electrifying Green eyes of the Mutant Turtle, Raph. I sit up, still looking at his eyes, a tint of pink rising to my cheeks. “Oh, uh… do I need to get up?” I asked, voice crackling from sleep. I rub my eyes, wobbling slightly as I stand. “It would probably be best. I don’t think anyone’s awake yet and I don’t know if I should tell them about you.” I says, throwing my pack at me, and I stumble. I give out a grunt, glaring at Raph. “Whatever you think is best…” I say, slightly snarky, and through gritted teeth.
He turns to look at me, hints of annoyance on his face. I stiffen as he turns to fully look at me. “S-sorry.” My voice softens. He just kinda, chuffs and turns towards the door. Quietly he turns the nob, opening it and peering outside. I sling my bag over my shoulder, following as he motions for me to follow. We walk down the stairs, tiptoeing as we go, and were almost past the Dojo-y area, when an older grainy voice called out. “Raphael… Show your friend to me.” I froze as I looked towards the door ‘How the flipping freak did he know’?!
Raph grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards the double doors. I stood still frozen, looking at the door. I wasn’t actually see through, but he still had seen us, and now I obviously knew he was in there. I drop my bag on the ground next to the door, grabbing the handle and sliding it open. Raph gives me a shove forward and I look up to see I’m standing in front of a giant… Rat! ‘Everything is huge and mutated here!’ I tell myself mentally. He opens an eye, and nods his head to the spot in front of him, to which I hastily speed walked over to and kneeled. I was slightly nervous for whatever reason, and could feel a sweat break at the edge of my hairline. ‘Calm down’ I tell myself, concentrating my breathing, and then looking directly at the giant Rat.
“Why are you nervous, child? You have nothing to be afraid of here.” He gave something of a small smile. I let my breath flow out of my body, which I hadn’t realized I was holding. “Y-Yes sir… I’m just not used to all, er, this.” I nod to him. He gave a light laugh, and smiled wider. “Yes, It must be quite strange for all of this to be forced onto you. If you do not mind my intrusion, why do you self-harm? You have many wounds, and it must be paining you.” He said. I felt goosebumps rise as I stared, wide eyed. “I-I, ah, No. I’m in your home, so you deserve to know… I, um. Well you see.” I felt tears prick my eyes. ‘Don’t cry in front of him!’ I mentally scold. “I use physical pain… to, um, compensate for the mental pain, f-forced onto me day, after day, after-” My voice fades, as I inhale sharply. “I apologize, sir. This is childish behavior.” I look to the ground shamefully, as I scrub my face of tears with my sleeves.
His smile left quickly as he stood and moved closer, laying a hand on my shoulder. “You are a child. Are you not?” He said, looking down at me. I raised my head to meet his gaze, shaking as a no. “I grew up a long time ago.” I say, my voice low, and rasped. “Rise.” Was his one word. I stood, shoulders back, and chest up –the proper way to stand. - I now realized that this Rat was a few inches taller than myself. ‘Am I seriously this effing short?’ My brows furrow. He looks to the door, where Raph was still leaning in. “Raphael, my son. I have a task for you.” He said sternly. Raph fully entered to room, leaning down to the Rat’s level. “Yes Master Splinter?” He asks, glancing at me. I feel my cheeks heat up, and I look away. “I must ask that you watch over this young girl.” He said turning, and walking back to his place under a big tree, in the center of the room. He sat and resumed his meditation.
I turn to see Raph RIGHT behind me, I accidentally run into him, putting my hands to his Plastron, and pushing back. ‘Damn it! As if my face wasn’t enough.’ I continue to stare at him. He smirked, grunting, and turned to walk out. “Hai.” He said in reply to Splinter. I follow him out of the room, holding my arms close in a hugging manner.
Raphael’s POV:
Father had told me to watch over the twerp. I was slightly irritated but I ain’t about to start arguin’. Adelyn turned and ran right inta me. I must say it was pretty funny, especially when her face lit up like a tomato. I smirked before answering Father with a “Hai.” I walked out into the livin’ room, glancing over my shoulder ta see Adelyn huggin’ herself. ‘She cold?’ She saw me starin’ and looked away, flustered. ‘Huh… What the shell is wrong with ‘er?’
I flopped onto the couch, her following but going the long way AROUND the couch, and sat down. She looked around, like she was lost. “You do remember coming in here last night yeh?” I say, flicking her shoulder. “Mhmm S-Sorry, I just… I didn’t exactly liked talking about… that.” She gets quiet. Sighing I continued to stare at her, she met my eyes, knitting her brows close together. “What?” She asked rather harshly. “What happened to you? I realize you don’t like talkin’, but you can’t stay quiet.” I say, getting more serious. “I, really, do NOT want to discuss it.” She said, getting a hint of anger in her voice. “I ain’t gonna run my trap.” I pursued. I could see a small vein pop onto her left temple. “No…” Her voice was just above a whisper. “Come on spill. If you’re gonna live ‘ere, no secretes.” I knew then I had pissed the f*ck outa the kid. “Shut the hell up Raph!” She growled through gritted teeth.
I can take a few angry slurs, but for some reason my fire got going. “Don’t you tell me to shut the hell up kid!” I snarled back. “Fine… Shut the F*CK up Raph.” She emphasized that word. The little Sh*t… “Now you listen ‘ere!” I snatched her by the collar of her shirt. “Don’t p*ss me off…” I say in a low gruff voice. “Or what..? You gonna beat me like her?” I could see new tears forming in her brown, freckled eyes… woah, those eyes… “W-What..?” I say slightly caught off guard. I heard her sniffle, biting her lip. Both her hands were grasped firmly on the arm holding her shirt. “You heard me… If you’re going to do it, then do it. I’m used to it now.” I heard her voice waver as she stared directly at me, piercin’ my soul basically.
I heard a whimper escape her lips, as he took short, quick breaths, trying to keep herself from breaking. “Sh*t…” I mumble, and she looked up. She had a look of… Sheer terror. I look behind me, no one, I realized she was terrified, of me.
Adelyn’s POV:
I couldn’t stop myself. I was gripping to Raph’s arm for dear life. I was terrified now. Not really of him, but the anger I saw in him. The same my Foster monster had anytime she felt like releasing steam. His eyes softened, loosening the grip on my shirt, he started to pull away, but I clutched to his arm, hugging it tightly as I let silent tears flow down my scarlet face. I could feel him tensing, as I held on, not daring to let go. “I-I’m sorry… I can’t control what comes out of my mouth sometimes… I just get angry, b-but I don’t mean it.”
Raphael’s POV:
Her voice was squeakin’, and higher pitched. It felt like my heart shattered right then and there… wait. What the hell am I doin’?! Why does it feel like I can’t breathe, and my shell is tightenin’ around my body, constrictin’ me. I heard a small wheezin’ sound. “Hey! You alright Adelyn?” I say, genuinely concerned. ‘CRAP!!! You can’t go soft on her.’ “I’m sorry… I’m sorry I’m immature, and just… useless.” She didn’t… oh Shell no, I ain’t havin’ not of that! “Don’t you dare f*ckin’ say that. Not here, or anywhere.” She stopped and looked at me, her eyes slightly puffy, she must have finally comprehended what had happened, because she jump backwards, fallin’ over the arm of the couch. I just sit there confused.
“Sh*t, I didn’t mean to… damn it…” she cursed, pullin’ at her hair. Her short, choppy, dark chocolate strands… ‘Nock it the f*ck off Raph.’ I mentally slap myself. She cleared her throat, it returnin’ to its natural, raspy, Jazz-singer tone. I just stare and her face goas dark red again. “Red’s a good color for you.” I say, liftin’ the corners of my mouth.
Adelyn’s POV:
Why’s be being nice. I didn’t ask for him to… ‘Well, maybe when I was clinging to his arm I… oh geez.’ My face lights up like a cherry. Good lord am I falling hard and fast into a slab made of turtle shell. She smirked at me, turning to look at the TV. Maybe he did deserve to know. No! Not now, after I just got pissed at him for asking. Later maybe. Right now I need to figure out how I’m going to- I was cut off by the sound of footsteps. I look up the stairs to see a turtle clad in blue trudging down looking tired, he didn’t even notice me as he walked strait into the kitchen. ‘Ok… so there are four in all yeah? Probably.’ I slowly start to walk to the kitchen, when another noise caught my attention.
I look back up the stairs to see an orange turtle stumbling down the stairs, while a purple one slowly meandered down the stairs, careful not to slip. I watch as they pass by me a mere few feet away. I walk into the kitchen knowing they all were now present downstairs. I enter shyly, peaking around the corner to see the blue one, rummaging the cabinets, while the orange one was warming something up in the microwave. I move into view of anyone who would look this way, and quietly walk into the actual kitchen. I sit at the table, they were all so sleepy and didn’t even notice, that was until the blue one sat RIGHT NEXT TO ME. It took him a good ten seconds to get wide eyes and slightly angry.
