Chapter 10: Emma's POV

I was in Luke's car. We had left the Competition after our conversation. On the way, we stopped at a drive thru, it was McDonalds of course.

"So let me get this", said Luke with his mouth full of food, "You are a royal and you switched places with Maggie just so you could see what it's like being normal? Weird".

"You don't understand," I stated, "I have never done anything on my own without someone having to watch me. My father doesn't trust me."

"Well maybe it's not that he doesn't trust you, he just doesn't trust all the freaks in this world". I guess that made sense but still. I never had gotten to do anything without someone telling me what to do. I took a bite from my cheeseburger. Luke told me this was what an average American would eat weekly or in some cases, daily. As I took a sip from my diet coke while Luke got his fries out of the bag.

"Want some", he asked. I shook my head. I might eat a cheeseburger but I will never ever in my life eat one of those greasy things. That's just pure posion right there.

"You scared to try a French fry," asked Luke.

"You have no idea how many calories are in those things. It's just grease and fat. Talk about poisoning yourself".

Luke looked at me in disbelief. "Fine whatever the duchess says. You are missing out though on some sure tasty food." He took a fry out and ate it in front of me, making faces at me.

"Look where are we going?"

"I plan on taking you to my house first. That way we can talk this over. I hope you do know that Helga will definitely wont be happy about this."

"Helga??"

"Maggie's I mean your step mom". Luke winked at me after he said that.

"Maggie still lives with her step mum? I thought she was eighteen already."

"Nope she doesn't turn eighteen until next week. She's still in high school you know"

I couldn't believe it. A seventeen-year old was pretending to be me. Okay so maybe there was only a one year difference but still, she's seventeen? Not to mention her birthday is next week? Hmmm...

Luke had driven off from McDonalds. The drive was only twenty minutes long until we were at his house. He lived in a normal, small, house. It looked like one of those normal homes in the movies you'd see. You know the ones with the fenced backyard, pet dog or cat, mom, dad, brother, and sister home. His house was colored turquoise. So maybe not the best color but still, COOL!

He pulled into the driveway. Once he parked, we got out of his car. Immediately once we were in the house, I was welcomed by two black dogs that had white spots on them.

"Okay down you guys", he said pushing the two dogs off of him. "Yes nice to see you guys too". The dogs were jumping up and down on him trying to lick his face. Ew and cute in a weird way.

"Mom?" He hollored out. "My mom must still be out work. Follow me". He led me downstairs which was very small. I had never been in a home this small before. Hotel rooms don't count. Once we were down stairs, he took me in his room. I sat on a chair while he lied on his bed.

"I'm assuming you need to know facts about Maggie and everything", the hazel eyed boy said as he began to trace his fingers through his hair.

"Yes you got that right".

Luke had rolled over on his stomach on his bed, reaching underneath picking up a box. He had began to open the box and took out some picture frames and a year book.

"Here," he said handing me the year book, "This is Maggie and I in kindergarten. We've been friends since we were six years old. " I looked at it. It looked like Luke used to wear glasses.

"I never knew you wore glasses."

"I don't anymore", he said, "Just contacts now". I thought it was kind of sweet how he still had the year book when Maggie and him had just first met. Maybe they were more than just friends. He showed me more pictures. One of them were of Maggie and him when they were ten years old on a baseball team. They both quit playing, because Maggie would have to play softball instead and Maggie was better with regular baseball than a softball. He showed me a birth certificate of when he adopted his two dogs, Max and Jasmine. Maggie adopted Sophie, Max and Jasmine's sister the same day. He told me the story of how Maggie started competing for snowboard and skate boarding tournaments.

"She also writes lyrics and plays guitar". Okay now I don't go all envy on girls but seriously she was way more talented than I could ever be. I only played tennis and I wasn't even that good. She's played foot ball, which is called soccer here in America, American football, she even is on the school's swim team. He spent a half hour talking about her. Luke told me about how her mother died. She had cancer too like my mum did.

"How did her dad die", I asked. She lost him when she was only twelve.

"They were hit by a drunk driver", said Luke quietly. They? What did he mean they? Was Maggie in the accident too?

"How did she get that scar underneath her brow?" Luke looked kind of nervous and sad at the same time. Like the answer was not a good one.

"From the same accident that killed her father". My eyes had gone wide open along with my mouth. I gasped covering my mouth.

"That's horrible", I said. I felt really REALLY bad for Maggie. Not only did she have to deal with her evil step mum and step sisters like Cinderella, she had lost both of her parents. She had to see her daddy get killed right before her eyes. The talk about the death of her parents reminded me of my mum. I missed her dearly so much. When she was going through the process of breast cancer, all I remember her saying to me was, "Don't worry angel. Mum is going to be alright. She just got a little cold". I believed every word she said until I saw her after getting chemotherapy. There she was with no hair. Still absolutely beautiful but then it hit me. My mom wasn't going to survive this battle.

Just the talk of death was starting to make me feel nauseous and very light headed. Like I was about to pass out.

"Luke, can you please-". Before I could finish, I fainted.
