One Sided Idiocy

Riza felt completely stupid.

She was practically talking to herself, and the guys were just watching her make an awkward fool of herself. It didn't help that she was close to tears either.

God, this was ridiculous.

The girl wasn't sure who to greet first; so she just stood in the middle of the room and addressed all of them. At first, she wasn't sure how to put together a proper sentence. How she was supposed to go about doing this. Was she supposed to be sarcastic about it? Heartbroken? Stoic and kind of boring? Awkward? How was one supposed to talk to a group of people who weren't physically able to respond?

"Hey, guys." Riza started. "If...um... If any of you are going to wake up, then now would be a good time. Y-you know, before I...erm... make a total fool out of myself." The teenager wasn't sure what she was expecting, but they just remained completely quiet. None of the machines went ham, and told her that they were responsive in any way to her words.

Trying to keep her breathing calm and steady, she closed her eyes for a moment. "Assholes..." The bluette muttered.

Her efforts to keep herself from breaking down into tears probably did more bad than they did good. The more she scolded herself for being so weak, the closer she was to just snapping entirely. It was really counter-productive. So, in a matter of seconds, she was a mess. Riza wasn't sobbing like a baby, but so many tears were streaming down her face so fast that any hopes to simply wipe them away were immediately abandoned. It felt like a golf ball had lodged itself in her throat,  and her nose started to get all stuffy.

The teen swore under her breath as she tried to stop herself from crying. She had to remind herself again and again that there were people watching her. And that she wasn't helping anything or anyone by allowing her emotions to get the best of her.

But the things was, she just couldn't stop.

These were her friends. Even taking away her direct relationship with Kai, they were family. They had gone through so much stuff together, and were still trying to fight it out. Riza couldn't remember the exact events, but she had a hard time imagining herself doing anything with any other group. They were all idiots, that much she knew. They were the best idiots that she had ever met.

Bit by bit, the memories began to surface. They didn't come in order, nor were any of them complete. But, she got the message of who the people in front of her were.

Kai had been the mother of the group. He was always getting them to do the things that they were supposed to, even if it meant threatening them. He was probably the most messed up out of all of them, but that just made him a more caring person. Her twin swore like a sailor, and knew everything about every little perverted thing out there. He protected them, even if it meant getting seriously injured in the process.

Mari had been twins' lifelong friend. She had been there since the beginning, and was probably the most quiet out of all of them. She always knew what to do, and how to do it; especially if it came to the topic of plants and animals. She was the most street smart out of all of them, and probably the most territorial. If Riza had to compare her to one thing, it would be a cat. Mari was quiet, sneaky, and the best fighter out of everyone in the group.

Seira had been a bit of an airhead. She had been the newest addition to their group, but had quickly become a very important one. She was goofy, forgetful, and awkward when it came to social situations. But, she was definitely one of the most loyal; if not in a slightly idiotic way. They used to joke that if they all fell off of a cliff, instead of calling for help, she would just hop off to join them. She knew everything and anything there was to know about guns, and was by far the best hunter.

None of them had been one to abandon anyone. Which was probably how everyone ended up so injured in the first place.

Finally, Riza just couldn't take it anymore. She had already failed to bottle everything up, so there wasn't much left that she could do to make a fool out of herself. Glancing over to the guys who were standing out in the hall-- Gon and Killua were pretty much the only ones peeking in-- she steeled herself to speak. It was harder than one might think. For a good second or two, the bluette just opened and closed her mouth over and over again; trying to bring up the courage to use her voice.

"Erm.. Can I, uh... Have a minute? I'm still trying to...a-adjust to this."

Offering the girl a small, reassuring smile, Kurapika nodded understandingly. "Sure, Riza-san. Let us know when you've calmed down."

Leorio was the one to steer Gon away from the door, as the kid didn't want to leave their new "friend" alone when she was so distressed.

Within seconds, the teenager was left completely alone. When the group had left, she had immediately wandered over to the door and shut it; just to get a little more privacy.

It was stupid, and she had every doubt in her mind about it working. But she had to try. It was the only thing that she could think to do. Riza had heard so many theories about people being able to hear everything while in a coma. So, it was by her hope that, if her friends heard her pleading for them to wake up, that they would be able to actually do it. The idea was a stupid, very cliche manga-ish thing to pull off, but she was going to at least try it. If it worked, then that was awesome, if not, then nothing would change. She would just have to wait until they woke up naturally.

Darting over to the nearest bed, Seira's, the girl gently started to shake her shoulder. The only reason for the "gentle" bit was because she didn't want to damage any of the equipment that was hooked up to the redhead. "Seira, come on!" The bluette shouted. "Open your eyes! Move a finger! Say something stupid, I don't care! Just do something !

Nothing.

When her efforts failed to come with any results, she made her way over to the silver-haired individual in the bed beside her. "Come on, you idiot! Don't leave me alone. Let me know that you're still in there, just...do something to let me know that you're okay."

Same result: Zip.

By the time she reached Kai, the teen was heavily regretting ever hoping that this would work. Reaching forward, Riza poked his cheek. "Congrats... I'm a complete moron. Can you please wake up now?" Surprise, he didn't move either.

Biting the inside of her cheek, she could feel herself coming close to breaking down again. Collapsing on the end of her twin's bed, she half-heartedly looked back and forth between the three patients. They all looked like they had in their pictures; only they were clad in hospital gowns, and looked a lot more sickly. It was actually a pretty depressing scene to witness.

"I have no idea what I'm doing..." She breathed. "You're all stuck here, and I'm stuck trying to figure out everything by myself. I don't even know if you guys can hear me or not. So... That's a, uh, a thing."

Why was she still talking?

Riza fell into silence. She must've sat there for a good half an hour or so; just staring at the ground and trying to sort out her own thoughts. Every once in a while, she would look up and glance at one of her friends or her brother. Throughout her entire stay, none of the heart monitors managed to pick up an irregular beat. It didn't take long for her to grow accustomed to the tune, either. With a small sigh, the bluette climbed to her feet. The guys had been waiting for her all this time, so it would be rude to make them hang around any longer.

Before exiting the room, she looked back at the trio one last time. "I'll try not to do anything too stupid, okay? But no promises with little things." And, with that, she just left.
