Jackson's POV

"I have something to tell you Mark. And I think you're the only one who understands me, yeah?" I stared into Mark's eyes with a very serious expression.

"Uh yeah. Of course. What's up?"

I gulped before answering, "Okay...um...I've been thinking about it for a while now and I've made up my mind. I'm going to ask Youngji to the Year 9 graduation dance and after that, right away after we finish dancing I'm going to ask her out!" I finished my one breath sentence, panting hard.

"Woah." Was Mark's replied.

Well?

"Well bro good luck" Mark smiled.

"Wait that's it?" I looked disbelief. Mark raised an eyebrow. "What? Am I supposed to say something else?"

I scoffed at him. "Well duh! Aren't you supposed to be supporting me?"

Mark frowned, "Jackson I am supporting you man. I said good luck! I mean it's not like I don't believe in you or anything like that. You're the fun guy, the funny one. You'll make her feel comfortable. And I know this is like you're first time but I wished you a very good luck."

I groaned loudly to express my frustration. "Mark yeah I know you believe in me but can't you show more support? Like giving me advices on how I should dress smart like you and anything you know about love. Come on we're bff!"

"Eh only girls use those words." Mark shakes his head but a small smile was painted on his face.

~~~ Year 9 Grad~~~
"Okay! Phew." I breathed in checking myself in the mirror. A real nice black suit is on me as I practise my facial expressions. Mark recommend this suit to me, and geez I look hot. I don't wear or have much suits in my closet, because I'm not the kind of guy I guess. Looking down at my watch, it says 6:30pm. Only 30 more mins left. Let's get this together Jackson. Be a man!
"You done?" Mark asked coming in my bedroom. I turned and smile brightly at him.
"Let's go!" I said, and we headed out.
~~~~ At school~~~

"OK, OK I'm going now. I'm going now. Calm me down, calm me down Mark." I was panicking, I guess. Mark gave me this look and smirked which I want to wipe it off his face immediately. He patted my shoulder, "Geez, Jackson calm your shizz, it's going to be okay. Come on, man up and go get her." He slightly pushed me forward where I could see Youngji and her friends talking inside the room. Yeah, easy for you to say, Mr. Tuan. I walked and nearly stumbled before looking back at Mark. He grins before shooing me off. I turned back and walk toward where Youngji is.

~~~~ 30 minutes later~~~~
I'm sitting down with my other friends staring blackly out of space. *Sigh* I'm pretending like I'm listening to their conversation but really, I'm just zoned out. Why am I such a chicken? No offence to the chickens. I couldn't ask her. Where is Mark when I need him? Such a good friend he is. Just then the art teacher, Mrs. Edward walk up the stage and quiet down everyone.
"Well, I hope you guys all have enjoyed a lovely dance with your friends Year 9. So here's the next song we're playing is going to be romantic! So grab someone that you think it's going to be suitable for the song and hit the dance floor. So boys, show them the man you are! And enjoy the night ladies and gentlemen."
Ha, yeah right. Everyone started getting up and going to choose partners, while I'm sitting down, paralysed. Then, from the corner of my eyes, I saw Youngji excusing herself from her friends and heading outside. OK Jackson! This is your chance! I got up and followed her. It was kind of spitting outside, and I lost track of Younji. But after glancing around, her voice was heard which came from the parking lot. She was laughing. I walked toward the voice curious to who she's with. And I wish I never did. Youngji was hugging Lay, tightly.
"I thought you weren't going to come!" Youngji exclaimed with a smile on her face. Lay smiled shyly, "I wasn't but someone kept threatening me so I had no choice." Youngji grinned before patting Lay's head. "Well aren't you a good boy? Keeping your promise to show up even though you're 2 hours late, I forgive you."
Lay rolled his eyes and playfully pushed Youngji's hands away from him. The started slowing walking back up.
"This is good for you Lay, you know. This kind of stuff only happens once in a life time, and I don't want you to miss it, even if you're anti-social of something. I'm going to dance with you so don't worry." Youngji smiled. Lay frowned a bit before asking, "Dance with me? You must really like me! Haha. But I thought you're going to dance with Jackson? You know Jackson Wang." Now this got my attention as I hide behind the building wall.
"Jackson?" Youngji said unsure. Oh that does not sound good. The sound of their footsteps stopped.
"Yeah Jackson, I've been hearing rumours that he's going to ask you to dance or maybe ask you out of something." Lay said certain of it. Youngji laughed to this.
"You're not serious right? They're just rumours, I've been in there for 2 hours already and he hasn't even been near me or came up to me."
"Well maybe he's waiting for the right time or something." Lay reasoned before hesitantly asking, "If...Say if he asked you out, would you say yes?"
Silenced.
I could hear my own heartbeat bumping against my chest. The silence is deafening, there's ringing in my ears. Where the hell did all those crickets go? I put my hand over my chest and gulped. I'm also curious, hell I badly want to know the answer but at the same time, I'm afraid.
"Well...I would probably say...no."
"Oh." Lay said. "Why though?"
"Mm...he's just not my type I guess. He's too playful and I...I don't know. I just don't see myself in a romantic relationship with him. He seems more like a best friend, brother type to me."
