I couldn't calm the anxiousness taking over my body after Michael words. It didn't sound good and my first instinct was to think in Mathew. Jeez! And that wasn't all. I couldn't believe Michael had come all the way here, what if someone discovered his scent did not belong in here? He was no Alpha, he couldn't camouflage his scent.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Serena, it's.. Mathew."
There it was. The answer I feared the most, because even though I had promised to forget about him, at least tried to, I couldn't. At the mention of his name, my wolf was quite awake and worried.
"He is mad, crazy, I can't even explain. Why would you do that to him?" He continued.
"What are you talking about?" I asked confused.
"You broke his heart, he said you had chosen other wolf."
What? No, he is our mate!! My wolf practically screamed in my head.
"Why.. why would he said that? I didn't. I'm mateless." I whisper and felt my knees buckled. Did he really believed that? Did he think I would choose someone else after everything we have been through? The only reason I had left was because I wanted to protect him, because I loved him enough to know being with me was a huge risk.
"He said you chose another wolf, that was all. Then he left and hasn't returned Serena. He destroyed the cottage." Michael muttered angry. "We can't find him."
Oh my God! Our cottage, he had destroyed it. He must have been very pissed. But still, I didn't know why Mathew thought I had chosen anyone else and I was going to make sure he knew the truth.
"How did you get here?"
Michael seemed confused. "I ran, tried to blend in until I found you."
"Okay well, it won't be easy for me but let's do it." I said and traded the high heels I was wearing, for a pair of converse.
"What are you talking about?" He asked confused.
"I'm going with you. I'll help you find him, even if it's the last thing I do." I replied.
"Do you see anyone?" I asked as Michael peeked over the trees.
"No, I believe they still think you are there." He replied.
"Okay, let's go then." I took his hand and started running.
"Wait, wait!" He shouted loud enough only for me to listen.
"What is it?"
"I can't run like that, I'm not.. a wolf."
"You haven't shifted already?"
"No." He seemed uncomfortable when he answered.
"Alright, then let's hurry. We want to be out of my territory by noon."
He nodded and we started walking at a fast pace. It was weird that Michael couldn't shift already but that wouldn't stop me from getting to Mathew. I needed to make things right, I couldn't left him thinking for an instance that I would chose anyone else over him.
I was right, by noon we were barely out of the territory and we would make it just in time. I wondered what would be happening at home. I could picture Liam going nuts and my father being the hot headed man that he was. After all, I had ditched the Luna ceremony for Mathew. And I didn't care, at least not now. Once things were right I would go home and take responsibility for my actions.
"So what's the plan?" He asked as we approached their territory.
"I don't know, when did you last see him?"
"Well he had been irritable for a couple of days, but yesterday he arrived home so mad and left. He didn't say anything but we haven't been able to locate him. Not even Dad, we are certain he camouflaged his scent."
"Alright, just go with your dad and keep looking. I'll go into the woods to try to find any clues." I ordered.
"Are you sure you don't want me to accompany you?"
"No, we need to save time." He gave me a sad smile but nodded. "Be safe." I murmured before I left.
I wasn't sure where I was going, but I needed something, anything to be able to find Mathew. Because when I did, I would be honest and explain everything to him. Right after I killed him for leaving his pack unprotected and worried me so much. And finally I would return home, to the Luna ceremony and forget everything that had happened in the last three months.
I kept on running and was surprised when I found myself in the waterfalls Mathew had asked me to be his. A sad smile appeared on my face remembering what felt like a lifetime ago.
Mathew. My wolf whispered. Mathew. Mathew.
What was she thinking? He couldn't be here. I turned around ready to go when a soft familiar scent reached my nostrils. Was it..?
I walked to the waterfalls and that's when I saw him. He was sitting on a rock, by the waterfalls. His head hidden between his knees and he seemed so peaceful, so tranquil.
Told you so.
She had been right. I guess then the mate pull was useful in this kind of situations. I giggled only to cover my mouth with my hands when I realized what I have done. Mathew would probably know I was here already.
I glanced his way and indeed, he was staring.
I stopped breathing and stare back. I could feel the mate pull again. Like the first day we had touched. It was there, making me want to run to him, but for some reason I couldn't move. I was glued to the ground. Scared, nervous and happy. All at once.
Was it too late to fix everything?
I should've stayed away. Because after this, I wasn't sure how I would leave him or how could I ever stay away.
