"Abby. Please don't do this. She's your daughter for Christ sake!"
Kane tried to plead with Abby, tried to make her realise she didn't need to go through with this.
Abby turned to face Kane before speaking. "She disobeyed me Kane. I told her that there would be consequences if she left this camp."
"She left this camp to save her people Abby. You would have done just the same."
"She could have died Kane. She disobeyed me and all I was trying to do was protect her."
"She doesn't need protecting anymore Abby. She's been through a lot down here, she's changed."
Abby refused to listen to Kane, she knew that if she stayed any longer, he'd be able to persuade her otherwise. But Clarke disobeyed her and as Chancellor, she couldn't let that slide.
Abby walked out of the ark, to see the camp stood waiting for what was about to happen.
Walking to the front, Abby spoke up.
"There has been speculation about what Clarke and Bellamy did weeks ago. The two of them left this camp through the fence after being ordered to stay, and risked their lives in an attempt to rescue the delinquents. Although they did succeed, they disobeyed me, the Chancellor. So there will be consequences, for both of them. Bring them out!"
The crowd went silent as Clarke was led out of the cell and attached to the lashing post. Her mouth had been stuffed with fabric for what looked to be hours, as the corners of her mouth had turned red raw. Her eyes were clouded over with tears and her unbrushed hair was more like a mane.
Clarke tried to resist the hand ties, but all of the kicking got her nowhere. Tied up, she still tried to get away, grunting through the fabric, keeping her hateful gaze on Abby.
Seconds later, a restrained Bellamy was bought out of a different cell and his gaze immediately found Clarke's, who tore her gaze from Abby.
Bellamy hadn't been gagged and his features hardened at the sight of Clarke's situation.
Bellamy had two guards stood on either side of him as he was guided to a pole that stood opposite Clarke and next to where Abby was stood. He was quickly tied round the wood, before the guards stepped back to allow Abby to talk to him.
"Abby. You don't need to do this." Bellamy pleaded. "Please don't do this."
"Bellamy, she disobeyed me. You disobeyed me. There will be consequences."
Bellamy's head dropped as he realised he wouldn't be able to save Clarke this time.
"Begin Kane."
Abby's features hardened as Kane stepped closer, retracting his taser.
He lifted her shirt up, revealing her shaking, pale back and steadied the taser.
"Wait!"
Bellamy's voice echoed round the camp, stopping Kane from lashing Clarke.
Clarke's eyes begged for Bellamy to stay quiet, but she knew it was useless.
"It was my idea. Lash me instead. Just please, don't hurt her..."
Clarke tried to respond, but the fabric stopped her.
"Remove the gag." Abby instructed.
A guard stepped forward, and gently removed the fabric from her mouth.
"Bellamy, please stop."
"Clarke, I can't let them hurt you..."
"I can't let them hurt you Bell. Just please."
"Kane, please begin."
Clarke closed her eyes as she awaited the first lashing of electricity to shoot through her spine.
As the cold metal touched her skin, her body launched forwards, a scream leaving her lips and tears falling from her eyes.
Bellamy watched helplessly and Kane did this three more times, before he began shouting and thrashing, trying to get away from the restraints, but everytime he struggled, they became tighter.
"Bellamy please stop. You're hurting yourself!" Clarke spoke between lashings, ignoring her pain over his.
As soon as the tenth lashing had been given, Clarke was untied as she fell to the ground, her body too weak to hold her up.
Seconds later, a crying Bellamy was let loose and he ran to the broken girl, falling onto the floor next to her and pulling Clarke's frail body into his.
He felt her tears seep through his top and rubbed his large hand gently over her back.
"Shh. I'm here Clarke. It's ok now. I'm here."
The crowd began to fight the guards, the scene infront of them too strong not to fight for. Shouts erupted and fists were flung at guards.
"Enough." Abby shouted, causing everyone to freeze.
"This punishment was absolutely neces-"
"My son was locked in mount weather. If it wasn't for your daughter and Bellamy, he would have been drained of his blood and thrown to die. But he's not. Because they saved his life."
Abby stood still, unable to argue. He was right, and so was Kane, yet she made him lash Clarke, her daughter simply because she didn't listen.
Abby turned towards Clarke, to see Bellamy helping her stand up, his arms wrapped around her body and hers wrapped tightly around his. She walked up to the two of them, stopping them in their tracks.
"Clarke, look I ha-"
"With all due respect Chancellor, I don't think Clarke wants to speak to you."
"Bellamy, she's my daughter."
"No."
Clarke's weak voice took Abby by surprise.
"What?"
"You. You are not my mother."
Bellamy guided Clarke to his tent, past the staring eyes and the crying children who had looked up to Clarke and Bellamy.
Once inside, Bellamy lay her on his bed, closing the tent behind him.
"Clarke, I'm so sorry. I should have stopped them."
Bellamy rambled on, blaming himself for Clarke's punishment.
"Bellamy. It was my fault, I deserved it."
"No. No you didn't." He whispered. "You did good here and yet look at the thanks you got."
Clarke sat up, wincing at the pain, "I'm fine Bell." She smiled at him, trying to reassure him that she was fine.
A tear fell down Bellamy's cheek as Clarke slowly leaned forward and connected their lips.
"I'm sorry." A broken Bellamy whispered to Clarke as their foreheads rested together. "It should have been me, not you."
"I think you had it worse Bell."
"Why?"
"Because I wouldn't have been as strong if I watched you get the lashings. I wouldn't have been able to see the one I love get tortured like that..."
"Love?" The word barely left his lips, nearly misheard.
"Yea."
Clarke smiled, laying back down as she pulled Bellamy with her, entangling their bodies, giving each other the love and attention the other so desperately needed.
