It had been a week since the apology basket and the letter. Not much has really happened, sweatpants and messy buns becoming Lydia's best friend. The rain outside was pounding down pretty hard but she was almost certain she heard a car pull up. She tried to convince herself she'd imagined it but that was definitely a door slamming. With a sigh, she pulls herself off of the couch and opens the front door just in time to catch a lanky brunette walking back to his jeep.
"Stiles?!" Lydia steps out onto the front porch, shivering and rubbing her arms, the pouring rain making the atmosphere cold. Stiles turns around, soaking wet and Lydia immediately takes note of how glum he looks.
"What if I end up being a bad father?" He gets right to the point, still standing out in the rain.
Lydia shakes her head. "Stiles you're not going to be a bad father." She assures him. "Come inside before you get sick."
"But I could be. Look at the way I treat you. I-I just let you go! You slipped right through my-"He doesn't finish his sentence, staring down at his fingers before pushing back hair from his face. He walks forward, the porch steps literally touching his toes but he didn't climb up."You're not even a dad yet and you're already a good father. I can tell." Lydia smiles. She makes her way down the steps until she's standing on the last one, the rain splashing off of Stiles now lightly sprinkling her as she grabs his hand, gesturing to the door. He nods but instead of joining Lydia, he pulls her into the rain with a shriek and she's soaked in minutes.
"Stiles, what the hell!" She half shivers, trying to shield herself from the rain by pressing into his tall figure as much as her belly would allow. He pulls her out of his chest though, their eyes meeting and he doesn't waste anytime on setting his lips on hers. Lydia puts all the emotions she has into the kiss as his hands make their way up to cup her cheeks. It was so confusing but she didn't care, it was him. Thunder rumbles from above, startling the two and they jump apart. Lydia takes Stiles hand and pulls him into the house.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||"Come here, quick!" Lydia chuckles and Stiles runs into the living room, careful not to spill his coffee before sitting next to her. They had both changed into some dry clothes, Stiles borrowing some of the sweats her dad had left behind, and Lydia didn't see the point of him driving home in the bad weather but it's not like he argued on staying either.
She grabs his hand, placing it on her belly where hers was before and she starts to hum softly, the baby kicking in certain parts of the unknown tune. They both chuckle when she kicks particularly hard at the end, Stiles removing his hand and grabbing his coffee again.
"That's amazing." He smiles and Lydia nods in agreement."You kissed me..." She trails off and Stiles nods frantically.
"I couldn't do it. Lydia I love you so much I just can't be with anyone else." He speaks at a rapid pace and she almost doesn't catch it. "I tried because you wanted me to but I can't!""Doesn't mean I ever forgave you." She mutters and all the color drains from his face.
"W-what?" He stutters.
"You can't just go off and slut it up with some girl then come back here and kiss me and expect everything to be okay when it's not!"
He was sure he had stopped breathing all together. The boy had screwed up big time and Lydia was doing everything in her power to make sure he knew that."I'll wait." He whispers. Lydia lets out a single laugh, half of it sounding more of a scoff.
"Please just-" she doesn't look at him. "Just leave."
Stiles shakes his head. "I'm not going to listen to this time. I'm not going to go when you tell me to because I've already made that mistake way too many times." He grabs onto her hand, rocking back and forth slightly where he sat."Tell me what you want. Right now just tell me what you need." He sniffles, tears brimming his eyes as he stared down at their hands.
"I want you" she laughs "but it's not that simple."
"And why not?" His voice cracks.
"Because I want you to be happy and I don't think I can do that for you." By now she was crying. Full fledged tears coming out of her eyes. Stiles cups her face, brushing hair from off of her skin in an attempt to calm her as she continues to speak. "I wanted you to go and do things you never got to do but at the same time I wanted you to disagree and fight to have me.""That's why I'm here! Heather?" He licks his lips as Lydia struggles to breath. "Heather's gone. Okay? Lyds, look at me. Look at me." She was trying her best not to but she had no choice as he gently grabs her chin to make her eyes meet his. "I love you. Nothing in the world could change that."
Lydia nods, wiping tears from her eyes as Stiles pulls the girl into his chest. The small universe that they shared had been so flipped and damaged in this moment that Lydia could only manage to repeat herself.
"Please leave." She mumbles against his body and he pulls back with a questioning look. "The rain isn't as bad anymore can you please just go?" Lydia nods towards the window with a sniffle."Lyds-"
"Go." She interrupts him, her tone serious. His eyes linger on her body, his touch not wanting to leave her skin but at the moment he'd do whatever she commanded. Almost.
