There was a knock at the bunker door. It was an unexpected sounding knock. It was timid and soft compared to anybody like a hunter. Dean went and opened it with a gun in his hand. A kid no older than 9 was at the door.
"Hey kid, get lost." Dean told her, pointing the gun at her face.
"Wait. Please don't shoot me." She begged.
"I said get lost." He repeated harshly.
"Dean, please. Listen. You don't know me but I'm your daughter." She told him. "I need your help." He looked at her skeptically and glanced around outside.
"Ok. Come in." He let her in. She sat at one of the tables as Sam, Avery, and Tristan walked in. She looked terrified. She wasn't used to there being so many people around who all seemed to hate her.
"Who is she?" Sam asked.
"I'm not sure yet. Just give me a minute." He told them. They left him alone for a moment. "Ok. So let's say you really are my daughter, then what do you want my help for?" He asked.
"My mom can't take care of me anymore, or at least doesn't want to. She told me how to get here and said to talk to you. She dropped me off close by. She said you won't want anything to do with me but it's the only option left." The girl explained. "Please just don't hurt me."
"Well I never had a kid. Who's your mom?" He asked.
"Jennifer." She replied. Jennifer. The name brought back memories Dean didn't want to relive. They had divorced a little more than 9 years prior and Dean didn't like to think about it.
"How old are you and what's your name? He asked.
"I'm almost 9 and my name is Audrey." She explained. It was definitely possible. He ran a hand through his hair.
"Ok. Before I figure out what we're doing, I need to check something." He splashed her gently with a little bit of holy water and had her touch some silver and iron. She was confused but let him check. "Ok. Sam, Avery, Tristan. Come in now." They walked in. "Guys, this is my daughter Audrey. She was Jen's." He explained sadly.
"Nice to meet you." Tristan spoke up.
"Dean, why is she here?" Sam asked.
"She said that Jen didn't want to take care of her anymore so she told her how to get here and dropped her off and said that she should talk to me. I don't know what to do." Dean explained.
"Ok. Can the three of us talk alone?" Sam asked.
"Tristan, can you show Audrey all your cool toys?" Dean asked. Tristan nodded and led her to his room. "Be nice." He added. "Ok. So I don't know why Jen thinks her coming here is a good idea, but I also know I can't just throw this kid out on the streets. She is definitely mine. The timeline matches up. She's almost 9 and Jen left over 9 years ago."
"Ok. So, I take it you've already checked if she's anything supernatural and she's clean. I don't see any harm in her staying." Sam replied.
"Me either. I mean, Sam and I have a kid, there's no reason why yours can't stay." Avery added.
"It's different though. Tristan has a dad, a mom, and an uncle. All this girl has is a mom who doesn't want her and a horrible dad. She needs a mom." Dean explained sadly.
"Dean, you'll be a great dad. You do really well with Tristan. Besides, if she's staying here, then I'll be like her mom, ok?" Dean nodded slightly. "I know it's hard, Dean. I can tell she reminds you of Jen. It'll be ok." Avery added with a slight pat on his shoulder. They went and got the kids and had them sit on the couch.
"Are you gonna hurt me?" She asked once she sat on the couch.
"No. Not at all. Why do you think we would?" Sam asked.
"My mom told me Dean was kind of reckless with guns and stuff and that he wasn't the most understanding person." She replied. That hit Dean harder than he showed but Avery knew it did.
"Well Audrey, you're staying with us. You're family now." Dean stated. A smile creeped onto her face and she was beaming. "Now, it's getting late so let's all get to bed." Dean suggested. Sam took Tristan to bed and Dean and Avery took Audrey to an extra bedroom. Dean let Avery handle it and stood at the door.
"Did you bring any PJ's in your bag?" She asked Audrey nicely. She nodded. Avery got her to get into them and tucked her in once she put sheets on the bed. "Hey Dean, I'll take it from here if you want." She offered. He nodded and left the room.
"Does Dean hate me?" Audrey spoke up. "Cause he's kind of scary."
"No. He's just trying to process what's going on. He didn't even know he had a daughter. It's just new to him. Dean's not that scary. He's really sweet." She consoled.
"Is Dean your husband?" She asked.
"No. Sam is. Why do you think Dean is?" Avery asked with a slight chuckle.
"You said he was sweet. I thought that was what married people called each other." She stated so innocently. Avery was starting to think Audrey was just the cutest thing.
"You can call other people sweet. Like I can say you're sweet or Tristan is sweet. It just means that that person is really nice and caring. I just realized we never explained everything to you either about who everyone is. Sam is my husband and I'm Avery. Tristan is Sam and I's son, and Dean is Sam's big brother." She explained. Audrey still had such an innocence about her despite being 9.
"Oh. Ok. That makes sense now." Audrey replied.
"Are you all set to go to sleep? I know this room is creepy. We don't use it much." Avery asked.
"I think so." She responded.
"Ok. Dean's room is 2 doors down on the left, and Sam and I's is the last one on the right." Avery informed. Audrey nodded. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." She replied. Avery turned the light out and shut the door before returning to Dean. "Sorry I took so long. She had questions and stuff about who we were and who I was married to and stuff." She explained. Dean looked borderline upset.
"It's fine." Dean replied flatly.
"Dean, I know you're not ok. Sam knows too. It's Jen isn't it?" Avery pushed.
"Ok. Yeah. She walks out, divorces me, and cuts me off then sends our kid here to live with me. I don't get it and it pisses me off that she sent her here yet can't bother to give me a phone call about it. Not to mention all the horrible things she said about me to Audrey." Dean explained.
"I know, Dean. I get it. It'll work out though. Ok? Just give it time. She's a really sweet kid. She's a lot like you in that sense." Avery consoled.
"Ok. It's just frustrating. Anyways, I'll see you tomorrow." He stated before going to bed. Avery and Sam headed there too.
