Mordred

You were a child when we first met,
Helpless and alone,
But holding a power I couldn't forget,
And soon that power had grown.

I knew what you were destined to do,
Yet still I helped you to escape.
I saw something of myself in you,
And that was my mistake.

I should have killed you back in the past,
To prevent the cruel fate,
It was Arthur then, who killed you at last,
But it was already too late.

I blame myself for not letting you die,
And even more for not letting you flee,
You loved her, so you had to try,
But I was too blind to see.

We both were guided by our heart,
The path of decisions was long,
So many things have played their part,
I know trusting you was wrong.
- And so was to trust you not.

You fought with magic, loyalty and love,
I've always done the same,
The darkening sky above
Watched us play our game.
- While destiny wrote its plot.

Standing on the brink of death,
When your glorious moment is past,
Breathing smiling your last breath -
I wondered which thought was your last.

Surprise, recognition, hatred, relief,
The smile of a fulfilled destiny,
The satisfaction of getting what you longed to achieve,
Or the smile of a lost victory.

Maybe you thought of how everything began
And laughed at the way things came to an end,
Killing and being killed by a friend.
