Chapter two

*Mia's POV*

~IN THE PAST~

"Let's dance guys!" My friend Ali shouted as a One Direction song blared through the speakers. We screamed and sprinted to the middle of the dance floor of the teen club where we were partying. We screamed out the lyrics as we danced, ignoring the guys trying to get our attention. After all, 5 of us 6 girls had boyfriends already. Me being the one girl without a boyfriend. I tried not to dwell on this fact as I noticed the many boys trying to catch my eye. That had to mean I was at least worth a second glance, right? I sighed, doubting myself. All of these guys were drunk anyway.

"Drink time, ladies!" My best friend

Amy shouted, noticing my dampened

mood. By the mischievous look on her

face, I knew we wouldn't be having

apple juice tonight. After we squished

into a booth, Amy passed around

glasses and poured clear liquid out of

a flask into each cup. I took a sip and

winced. Vodka.. Classy.

I looked around at my 5 best friends.

We had all met in elementary school,

and we've been inseparable ever since. We were the group everyone wanted

be in, and yet despite many attempts,

no one had been able to fit in with all

of my friends. I looked again at the

girls who had helped me through so

much; bullying, my dad's death, boy

troubles.. The list goes on and on.

First, there's my best friend, Amy. Amy is the unofficial leader of the

group. With her long golden hair and

shining blue-hazel eyes, she's easily

the prettiest girl in school. When she

decided that she and I would be best

friends forever back in grade school, I

didn't object. I had never mattered to

anyone at school, and now the most

popular girl wanted to be my best

friend? I couldn't pass up that

opportunity.

Grace, Ali, Lila, and Taylor are our

four other best friends. All five my

friends have perfect hair, clothes,

bodies, faces, even nails. I try not to

compare myself to them too much, but it's hard, because they're beautiful and

I'm... just Mia.

I don't have Grace's platinum

spiral curls, I have my semi-straight,

medium length, blondish-brown hair.

I don't have Lila's ice blue orbs, I have

my boring green-hazel eyes. I don't

have Ali's fashion forward-ness, I just

wear what the crowd does. I don't even have a talent like Taylor does with
