Chapter 1

*IN THE PRESENT*

~Third person POV~

"So you don't think she'll make it?" Mia's mom asked the doctor quietly.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Meyers. The chances of her surviving are one in a million. There are many factors contributing to her situation; alcohol, late diagnosis, the-" Mia's doctor was cut off by a short, sarcastic laugh.

"You think I care about factors?" Mrs. Meyers started quietly. "Do you actually think I don't know what's going to happen from now? My husband DIED from cancer. Please stop acting like you care that my only other family member is about to die too, because you don't. You watch people die every day, and you feel no emotion for them!" Mia's mom shouted, raising her voice with every word. She whipped her hair as she turned sharply and walked out of the hospital, ignoring the stares she was receiving from the spectators of her recent outburst.

As soon as he hit the highway, Mrs. Meyers' eyes welled up. Her burst of anger was gone, replaced by an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. She prayed silently that Mia's life wouldn't be stolen from her like her father... She could only hope that this time, God fulfilled her pleas.

~unknown POV~

I followed Mia's mom out of the hospital. I memorized every detail of her. I knew so much about Mia and her mom already, and I couldn't wait to use it against them... But I needed more information. I followed her to her car, writing down the license plate. I hopped in my own car and began discreetly following her as she drove away... These people will never know what hit them. Let the stalking begin.
