As Joshua and Isabel walked into the store, Joshua decided to change the subject of their conversation. "So, tell me about yourself, Isabel" "Well, what would you like to know?" "What is your favorite color?" "It's lavender, which is also my favorite scent, what is yours?" "My favorite color is red, which isn't a scent but if it was it probably wouldn't smell pleasant" Isabel laughed at Joshua's response. "What would the color red smell like?" "I don't know, I feel like it would smell like a fire or something burning, which isn't a positive action" He responded to Isabel's question with subtle laughter then began to ask her more questions about her preference.
"What's your favorite animal?"
"I like birds, specifically doves, you?"
"I'm pretty basic, but I'm a dog lover, what's your favorite food to eat?"
"Macaroni and cheese, what about you?"
"Lasagna"
As time passed by, Joshua continued to ask Isabel questions about herself. The two teenagers walked around the discount store for what seemed like hours just laughing, answering each other's questions and enjoying each other's presence. In that moment, Isabel felt as if her and Joshua were the only two humans on earth. All of her troubles, worries, and depressing thoughts disappeared as she spent her time with Joshua. As they were on line at the cash register, Isabel reached into her pocket for her money to pay for the notebook that Zeliya "needed" and for snacks that her and Joshua had picked out to eat. "No, let me, I'll pay for it, it's okay" Joshua offered. "No, that's okay, after all, it is my sisters stuff and she did ask me, you don't have to worry about it" "No, I completely insist, put your money away, I got it" "Are you sure?" Isabel asked in a confused tone. "Yes, I'm sure. It's okay" "I'll pay you back, here's $10" Isabel took the money and handed it to Joshua. "Keep your money, please, just don't worry about it" "Well, okay" Isabel slid the bill back into her pocket and proceeded to grab the items that the cashier had placed into bags. "No, I got it, it's okay" Joshua told Isabel. Joshua was very polite. As the two were leaving the store, Joshua held the door for Isabel. What a gentleman. Isabel was enjoying the moment. She had realized that nothing lasts forever, everyone should enjoy life in every moment, even when they feel like nothing matters. Every moment is a moment that you can't get back. Time passes, we grow older, and we should be able to enjoy our time on earth while it lasts. As we grow, things begin to change. We realize more, we learn more, we make more mistakes. This process is extremely difficult. Your teenage years are the most fragile years of your life, there's plenty of mixed emotions, feelings, thoughts, etc. The process of growing up is to figure yourself out, learning who you are, getting to know yourself. Enjoy every moment of your life, you're alive for a reason. Remember that.
