"I am so excited about tonight!" Hanna screeched from the driver's seat, barely able to contain her excitement.
I gave her an exasperated look. "Will you please just tell me what's happening tonight? You've been ignoring my question all day."
She rolled her eyes. "That's because it's a surprise, stupid."
I sighed and looked out my side window. I'd let Hanna drag me around looking for dresses all afternoon when all I really wanted was for the day to be done. What the dress was for? I had no idea. And I was kind of scared to find out.
"You know, I could just get Fey to tell me what's happening tonight," I gave her a pointed look. "Don't think I haven't seen you all whispering when you think I'm not around."
Hanna pouted. "But what fun would that be if Fey just told you? There'd be no surprise."
"That's kind of my point."
"Alright, listen up Sabine," Hanna began seriously, "you're going to have a lot of fun tonight. You've been working so hard recently, and since you and I both know there's a chance you might not become Alpha, this is your last night to just be yourself. Now stop worrying, I've got tonight under control."
I bit my lip. I doubted very much that Hanna had the night under control – whatever it was she'd planned. But surprisingly enough, that wasn't the reason for my worry. I was worried about the ominous feeling I couldn't quite shake ever since I talked with the Alpha yesterday. He'd suggested a war was on its way, and I believed him. The rogues seemed more powerful than ever.
Hanna turned into our driveway, but her turn wasn't sharp enough, and she was only an inch from running over our letter box.
"Oops," Hanna laughed. "I kind of remember why I don't drive that often."
I stifled a laugh and hopped out of the car, grabbing my school bag and the bag holding my dress for tonight. I swung the door shut and started up towards the house.
"Wait!" Hanna yelled, shutting her own door and catching up with me. "You have to close your eyes."
"I have to what?"
"Close your eyes. Geez, listen Sabine."
"No. Why do I need to close my eyes?"
Hanna threaded her arm through mine, and led me up to the front door. "It's part of the surprise for tonight. Just promise me you won't peek."
"Okay..." I said slowly. "Just make sure you guide me through the house. I don't want to run into anything."
I shut my eyes and let Hanna guide me through the front door and into the foyer. Walking through the entrance, it sounded completely silent inside and I frowned. Where is everyone?
Just when I was tempted to take a peek, Hanna said, "Don't even think about opening your eyes!"
Psychic.
I heard someone laughing off to the side, and it was against all of my natural instincts to keep my eyes closed.
"Milo! Don't you dare try to trip Sabine over with your foot!" I heard Hanna yell. I could imagine the challenging look plastered over her face.
I stopped walking and heard Milo make a frustrated noise.
"You just had to ruin it, didn't you?" He groaned.
