We turned down a alleyway which opened out into a big abandoned parking lot.
Cars of all variety were parked up in stretches, pulling up in a line, I shut the car off and glanced over at Mia, "it's going to be fine, Soph, none of us will let anything happen to you."
I sighed and glanced down at the steering wheel, ready to drop Mia off and go home.
For someone who hates socialising, there's a hell of a lot of it going on today.
Dom opened my car door and glanced down, a concerned look on his face "are you okay, Dimples?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm good." Gingerly, I got out of the vehicle and tucked myself beside him, looking down at our boots in order not to catch anyone's eye as they stared at me.
Dom put his arm around me "listen up! This is my sister Sophia, if any of you touch her I will personally kill you!" He threatened, everyone nodded and mumbled amongst themselves. I think they got the message.
"Hector." My brother grinned, shaking the man's hand, his tone suggested that they were friendly, but he wasn't part of my brothers family.
"Hey, Dom." He glanced behind his arm "Mia and Sophia."
"What's available?"
"Eh, a couple of quarter miles, ones a grand, the other a two grand. Five racers in each." Hector explained, "you in?"
"Yeah." He agreed "put me down for both."
"Sure, man." Hector smiled as Dom handed over three wads of cash held in messy rectangles by elastic bands "since you've come back you've been minted, what ya do? Rob a bank."
My brother smirked and shook his head "something like that. I'll see you later."
Dom disappeared into the crowd, and I located Brian by his car a little further up.
"I'm guessing this isn't your scene." Brian commented as I hopped up and used his car bonnet as a bench.
I shook my head "I've done a couple of races at Dume Cove before but they were never on this scale."
I came here occasionally when Dom was babysitting me and Mia, we used to stay in the car, Mia didn't like racing at all, and I didn't like all the people. It was always a pretence to a party back at home, which Mama and Daddy broke up when they got in. They used to kick everyone out except for Vince, he was allowed to stay and sleep on the couch, they always let him stay, even in a school night. I wonder what happened to Vince?
I watched Dom's races, he won both, the first by a considerable distance and the other by a bonnet length. He didn't seem to mind; he celebrated them both equally.
"That guy in the Mustang over there thinks he can beat you." Letty commented, pointing a Coke in the general direction of 'the guy'.
I shrugged, a lot of people think they can beat me, I'm not a regular sight in races so no one really knows if I have a 'gift' or not like my brother.
She raised an eyebrow, as if to ask why I wasn't reacting, "so, do you want one of us to go and talk to him?"
I shook my head, perfectly content with sitting crossed legged on the bonnet of my car, eating Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. "He's just talking." I mumbled "not like the guy's gonna do anything."

Fanfiction-EDITED- "I'm sorry I think I got the wrong number." I whispered, sniffing and starring at my feet. I was too late, it was stupid, pinning my hopes on a card from three years ago. "That depends on who you're looking for." "My brother." The line we...
