<POTENTIALLY TRIGGERING- READ WITH DISCRETION>My muscles felt like lead as I stirred awake, my legs flopped uselessly underneath me as my wrists were shackled to some overhanging metalwork.
It seemed like I was still in the house, and I could see that the sun was bright enough to find it's way through the layer of newspaper pasted over the window. Last time I was awake it was pitch black apart from the single lightbulb that swung overhead.
My head throbbed painfully, as if jackhammers had permanently taken residence in my skull and were pounding against it. It didn't help the nauseating feeling festering in my stomach
The noise of a bolt being pulled brought my attention to the door in the corner. The familiar feeling that presented itself before every panic attack emerged but I willed myself not to break down, not to show them the effect that they had.
"Finally." A familiar voice drawled in its east coast accent "we thought we had given you too much tranquilizer, it has been a couple of days since we last talked." She giggled, I cricked my head painfully to glare at her
"Bitch." I snarled.
"Aww Soph, don't be like that." She laughed, pointing to my swollen, purple eye "especially when you're talking to the person who can do that."
Wincing, I thought about the metal rod, how my skin stung from the blows.
"We have a special visitor for you." She stepped back and a male and a female walked in.
"Sophia, darling, we've missed you!" My adoptive mother smiled, as if kidnapping your old adoptive daughter and having her chained up was a completely normal daily occurrence.
"Why am I here?" I asked, "what are you doing here?"
Max smiled, holding a hand to my cheek "we wanted you back, Sophia." He stated simply. "Your family were being so stubborn so we had to get you by yourself. We will be back later, just got to do a little shopping for our trip." He turned around, steering Angelea out of the room.
"Wait!" I yelled at their backs, Max turned around, "what did you do to my family?" I asked, tears filling my eyes as I though about the endless horrific possibilities.
"Your brother and sister are fine. Though I couldn't say the same for your brother-in-law. His car got jumped on the way out of Fort Stockholm. Poor soul. Last time our friend visited he was still in a coma." With that him and Angelea wandered out the room, nodding at me as they went.
The door went to shut "why did you do it, Zara?" I demanded, I knew their plan was to keep me here before all of us headed over the Rio Grande and flying to Morocco where they couldn't be extradited for their crimes.
Zara turned and smirked at me, I wish I knew about these sociopathic tendencies before I befriended her. It would've made my life a whole lot easier.
"I wanted to help my family. Like you, family is a very important to us." Zara stepped up, so she was in my face, "after what your brother did to Alec, I wanted to destroy you in the same way you destroyed our family."
All my bottled anger was released at that moment.
Flinging my head forward, I smiled when it made contact with the bridge of her nose, letting out a loud crunch as it gave way, she yelled and stumbled backwards, I watched in horror as she clutched at her back pocket, whilst pinching her bleeding nose, and pulled out a small, sharp knife.

Fanfiction-EDITED- "I'm sorry I think I got the wrong number." I whispered, sniffing and starring at my feet. I was too late, it was stupid, pinning my hopes on a card from three years ago. "That depends on who you're looking for." "My brother." The line we...
