Chapter 4

Hello reader,

The next few days were fairly uneventful, aside from the few awkward staring contests Cameron and I got into during class and the nights I feel asleep thinking of him. He hadn't talked to me since the first day of school and it had killed me. On Friday, at the end of class, he made sure he was the last student in the room before approaching my desk.

"Are you ready to answer more of my questions?" He asked with a smirk. But it wasn't his usual cocky smirk. It was almost forced, making him seem nervous.

"Only if you'll answer mine and not run off again." I challenged, looking at his gorgeous green eyes.

"Fair enough." He stated simply as he slid his backpack on his shoulder, "I'll see you after school." He added as he walked out of my classroom.

Through the rest of the day, I found myself growing anxious to see him again and hopefully get to know him more. After my last class, I did as I normally do and shut my classroom door to help block out the noise of students in the hall. I sat at my desk organizing papers for quite a while before I heard the door open and close. I didn't even look up, knowing exactly who it was, that is until he sat on the edge of my desk, startling me.

"You really shouldn't do that." I almost scolded as I removed my glasses and placed them on the desk in front of me.

"I like it when you wear your glasses." He stated boldly, sporting his usual cocky grin.

"So do I. I can read better." I joked. Trying to deflect his compliment. "How was your first week of senior year?" I questioned, knowing he was likely to not answer and change the subject.

"It was good. I have especially enjoyed my English class this year." He surprisingly answered my question, with a smirk tugging at his lips.

"Oh really? And why is that?" I questioned. It wasn't until a smirk was clearly displayed on his face that I realized what I walked right into.

"Well, you see, it's the teacher that makes the class interesting." He started, as his smirk grew into an actual smile. "She encourages students to express themselves through their writing, yet I'm convinced she has never let anyone know the real her. I don't think she trusts people easily, which makes it hard for me to trust her with who I am." As he continued, his eyes never left mine. "But for some strange reason, I really want to." He finished, displaying an uneasy expression, that told he wasn't sure how I would react to his words.

We sat in silence for what seemed like an hour, just looking in each other's eyes, until he broke the silence by standing and turning to leave.

"Where are you going?" I asked, as I jumped from my seat, hoping he wouldn't leave.

"I don't know. You tell me." He said, sounding tired, as he turned around to face me. "Do you trust me enough for me to trust you?" He questioned, taking a step towards me. Before I knew it, he had almost completely closed the gap between us as he stood no more than a few inches away from me.

I could barely breathe, being that close to him. I managed to whisper "Yes." Before my breath caught in my throat as he touched my cheek brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. My heart raced just thinking about his hand touching me again. I opened my eyes, which I hadn't even realized were closed, to see a smirk plastered on his face and excitement dancing in his eyes.

"You should probably go, Cameron. I'll see you in class on Monday." I said, nearly jumping back from him.

"As you wish, Ms. Reed." He said with that same smirk still on his face, before turning on his heel and leaving my classroom.
