Chapter Two
Aqua’s POV
I stood in front of my mostly empty wardrobe. What to wear, what to wear? I thought to myself. I settled on purple corduroy pants, a red shirt, and a rainbow scarf. I scoured the room for where I put my shoes and found a pair of grey Converse. Shrugging, I pulled them on then looked at myself in the mirror. I didn’t really need more makeup, and my hair looked fine. I pulled in back into a ponytail, and grabbed a pair of gold hoops. I checked the mirror again. Do I look too formal? Or would this be too casual? I decided the only way to tell would be to ask the Harries. I left my door unlocked and knocked on their door. Jack opened it and took me in.
“Look at you, all dressed up,” he said. “Got a hot date?”
“He could be hot,” I said. “Is this too much? What would you think?”
“I like it. With all honesty, if I was your date and saw you walking towards me, I would think, ‘damn, that’s hot.’” I giggled. “I would even whip out that giggle a few times during the night,” he said.
“Thanks Jack,” I said, and hugged him. Over his shoulder, I saw Finn enter the room. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me. Jack let go and stands to the side. “What do you think?” I asked Finn, twirling. He looked me up and down.
“Hm,” was all he said.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked, stalking over to his side.
“It means, are you sure about this? You don’t know the guy very well,” Finn stated.
“Since when did you care what I do?” I asked, adding a bit of venom, truly offended. “I just met you.”
“You’re like a little sister. As the eldest, its my job to protect you.”
“Maybe I don’t want you to protect me. And I may not know him very well, but that’s the point of the date.” I saw him flinch slightly. “I’ve gotten along perfectly fine without someone to look out for me, and I don’t need it to start now.”
“Well maybe you need to have someone to look out for you! Or at least recognize that there are people who care about you and don’t want to see you get hurt!” Finn shouted.
“Oh right. And you’re one of them?” Finn stayed silent. “Thought so.” I storm out of the room, slamming the door then storming to my bed. I flopped down.
“If you ever want to talk, Aqua, I’m here,” a voice says softly through the wall.
“Thanks again, Jack. I might take you up on that later.” I checked my phone. “I gotta go. It’s quarter till.” I stand and leave my room, locking the door behind me. I made my way downstairs, smiled when I saw him.
“Ready to go?” he asked. I nodded, and we headed to the cinema.
Jack’s POV
Aqua left, and my door opened.
“I need your help,” Finn said. “I screwed up, big time.” He flopped on my bed next to me, and we stared at my ceiling.
“Well, you’ll have to decide what you’re going to do next,” I said.
“I don’t know what to do though. How can I make her trust me again?”
“Well, I share a wall with her. I could talk to her and see what’s wrong then report back to headquarters,” I said, adding a note of teasing.
“If that doesn’t work, we need a backup plan.”
“Just apologize.”
“You think?”
“Yeah, unless she plays that universal ‘you screwed up big time’ song.” Finn chuckled. I sat up. “Come on. Let’s go do something.”
Aqua’s POV
“This was fun, Matt,” I said. “We should do it again sometime.”
“The pleasure was all mine, Aqua. Have a good night, and maybe I’ll see you in the library again tomorrow.” He smiled.
“Possibly.” I poked his chest, then walked into the building. I waited until I saw Matt turn a corner, then quietly opened the doors again. Bushes rustled. I made my way towards them, then pounced, tackling the twins. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Looking at the stars,” Jack said.
“Liar.” I narrowed my eyes. “If you were spying, I wouldn’t care if you hadn’t lied about it.”
“We were spying,” Finn said.
“I knew it!” I stand and brush leaves off me. I stuck both hands out, and they each took a hand and pulled me to the ground again. “You two are so weird.” I chuckled.
