I walked up the cobble stone stairs of the light wood and stone styled cafe. The outside of the massive windows were showing off the new Christmas decorations now that it was December. How odd. I peeked inside and looked around at the comfy seats to look for one person in particular. Everywhere on the white walls inside, were anonymus masks painted and plastered on the wall decoration, fitting the name of the place perfectly, and beside them were people hanging Christmas lights. The one cafe Mia and I visited daily was now more ready for Christmas than we were.
I could see her already, sat in the back, seated on a swing right in front of a tall table. I pushed the door open after waving Johnny bye for the day.
"See you tomorrow loser!" I called after him. He flashed an amused smirk before turning his back. I stepped inside with a stupid smile on my face and headed over to Mia.
"Hey," I greeted as I joined her side. I was careful while sitting down on the swing, making sure to not have her go off balance while she was sitting cross legged comfortably. She already had a cup of coffee in front of her: a cappuccino, her favorite. Beside it was a pile of papers spread out messily. She's been here for a couple hours, I can tell by the way her handwriting has gone messy when she was writing. She had my massive knit scarf and a cute dress on... which was also mine.
"I already ordered your lattee," she informed me as she lazily waved at me. Her eyes didn't pick up from the paper she had in her hands. I looked her up and down in confusion, wondering why the hell she's wearing a dress in this weather.
"What are you wearing?"
"Fashion," she responded to me as she flipped some papers over.
"Right," I responded sarcastically.
"Is that... Uh... for my wedding?" I questioned her as I pointed suspiciously at them.
"Uhuh,"
"Mia, come on." I groaned out. "That's the last thing I want to think about right now."
"Yeah, but somethings fishy." She whispered to me. "And it isn't the fish and chips."
"We don't have fish here," I mumbled to her sassily. "We're like 500 miles from the sea."
"Take a joke." She sneered back at me. Suddenly a waitress came and she placed my coffee down for me.
"Hey Arie, I also brought you a glass of water. I guess being pregnant must get you really dehydrated... You look great today by the way."
"Oh, thank you." I replied to her kindly. I felt horrible for a moment, from not knowing who she is. This has been happening a lot recently, a little too much. The beautiful blonde flashed a pearly white smile before turning her back and making her way to the barista bar.
"Who is she?" I whispered to Mia as I picked up my coffee and began to sip it.
"Arie, you're going to have to get used to this. You're a bit of a celebrity now."
"Oh, now that I'm engaged to a piece of shit?" I mumbled stubbornly like a child as I folded my arms across my chest.
"Back to the wedding." Mia responded with a unbothered eye roll.
"Really?" I groaned out as I unfolded my arms and threw my hands in the air.
"Shhh. Just look." She hissed at me. She pulled out a picture of Mr. Everett shaking hands with someone outside the walls, a group of people, looking like a mafia.
"Mr. Everrett isn't so nice after all." I whispered back. I wish I could identify blocky faces, but unfortunately I'm not an artistic genius with a great imagination.
