"What about the baby?"

My eyes fluttered open to the sound of Jacks voice. There I was in a hospital bed, with a tube stuck in my hand and multiple blankets wrapped around me. I had felt both warm and cold at the same time. My skin was impossibly itchy and parts of my body both ached and felt numb. I was sat up almost completely from a comfortable stack of pillows. Behind Jack who sat right next to me, I saw everyone standing anxiously around.

I hadn't moved yet, and no one had realized I woke up.

"The baby should be fine." The doctor, an older, bald man of the age of late 50's sat across from Jack on my left side of the bed.

"Wherever that dog came from... It saved not only her life, but the babies life."

The doctors eyes flickered to me, and registered that I finally awoke.

"It was because I saved the dog." I weakly voiced with my head barely having the strength to sit up. My vocal chords sounded damaged as I tried to speak.

"Don't speak too much too fast." The doctor told me after I made a panicked reaction placed on my face.

"Your throat had dried up and froze quite a bit when you were out there and passed out. It will take a few days possibly a week, but eventually your voice will come back."

"How is the throat?" He questioned me.

"It's hurt." I softly replied with my voice constantly squeaking.

"How does soup and tea sound at the moment?" He questioned me.

"...Doable." I replied to him.

"That's a good sign." He commented. "Can you wiggle your toes?"

It took a moment, but as I tried to get my limbs to move, eventually I started to get some tiny moments in my toes.

"Good," the doctor accepted as he saw them wiggle beneath the 4 layers of blanket.

"I'll ask the nurses to bring you some warm liquids and I'll check up on you in a few hours."

"You're awake!" I heard Mia gush out in relief. I looked up to see a warm smile with her eyes filled with tears.

"I was so scared." She gushed to me as she came to my right side, around Jack. She took grab of my hand, which felt like a kiln next to mine.

"Samaya was crying and barking at the door hours after we realized you were gone."

"I was so scared when she went to the forest."

"I'm fine... I just passed out."

"It was negative ten outside, Arie!"

"Well... I'm still alive. Canada can't get rid of me that easily." I weakly spoke with a sly smile.

"By the way... Ms, during your check on the baby, we seemed to discover it's sex." The doctor announced as everyone huddled tightly in the room around Jack and I. Mia took a step back with a surprised look on her face. I could see her bite her lip with excitement.

"Do... Do we wanna know?" The doctor question Jack and I. Jack took a tight hold of my hand after Mia left mine. He held my hand to his lips and softly placed kisses on it while looking at the doctor. Jack and the doctor both turned their attention to me.

"I.. I don't know." I replied with a squeak. "Jack?"

"It's up to you."

"I want this mutual." I told him with shake of my head. He gave me a soft nod, and that told me yes, which was what I had felt was right as well. I then flicked my eyes to the doctor and I nodded softy. A sweet and soft smile placed on his face, and he breathed in to say it.
