Hiccup

I grabbed Astrid's hand and dragged her to the spot where we first met. We started dating when we were fifteen. I had taken her to a spot in the woods for our first date. Now in that same spot I had the trees covered in Christmas lights and a romantic picnic set up.

"Hiccup it's beautiful." She said before kissing my cheek.

"I'm glad you think so. " We sat, ate and talked. "How about dessert?"

"Is that even a question?" She giggled. She opened the basket and utter shock took over her face. I took the ring box from her hands and got down on one knee.

"Astrid Hofferson. We have been together for 6 years and I have loved every day with you. Your beautiful, funny and a total bad ass, everything I could ever want in a girl. I love you with all my heart. Will you make me the happiest man in the world and become my wife?"

I stared into her eyes. "Hiccup we are so young. We couldn't...we...we can't! This is crazy."

"Why??"

"Im sorry Hics." She closed the box.

"What now?" I asked laying down on the picnic blanket. I felt her lay down beside me.

"I don't know." She said. "Can things stay the way they were?" I looked at her in disbelief. "I guess not." She sighed.

"So..."

"Do you want to break up?" She asked me.

"No. But it's for the best." I spoke trying to hide the pain but Astrid always knew what was going on in my head.

"Can we stay friends?" She pleaded.

"Yes." She sighed in relief. "But I think we should spend some time apart from each other." She nodded sadly. We stood up.

"I'm so sorry Hics." She hugged me and I held on tight. It felt like I was saying goodbye to my world.

"I love you Astrid." I whispered.

"I love you too." She replied. "Goodbye." She left me alone in the woods. I cleaned up the picnic. I realized I was far enough in the woods for no one to hear me so I screamed. At the top of my lungs.

"Woah! Calm down!" A voice said.

"Fishlegs what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Astrid called me and told me what happened." He explained. He was my best friend.

"I don't know where I went wrong." I groaned.

"Your going to be fine Hics. It's just a breakup." He tried comforting.

"Dude I loved her. I still love her. I don't know what I'm going to do." I held my head in my hands.

"Maybe you should go for a little vacation. You know get a change of scenery." I thought about it and he was right.

"That's actually a good idea. I just need somewhere to go." Fishlegs drove me home and I went straight to my computer.

I found an apartment for rent in Burgess. It's far enough from Berk that I wouldn't have to see Astrid for a while. I dialed Fishlegs and waited for him to reply.

"Hey Hics." He said. " Feeling better? "

"Yea actually I found a place for rent. I'm going to Burgess for a year!" I announced.

" Wow. I'll miss you." He sighed.

"Same here bro. But we will keep in touch." I hung up then immediately told the apartment owners that I wanted it. They replied and told me the place was mine. I was leaving in two days. I started packing immediately.

Two days later I hopped on a plane and made my way to Burgess. Goodbye Berk. Goodbye Astrid. See you next year.
